Century Vs. Farmington could be considered a big game for section 1 seeding purposes. I know its early but Century does not have a tough schedule and coaches tend to favor head to head.

East takes a 4-3 lead with 19 seconds left while on a five-minute power play.

And hangs on for the win.

Whew. Did the Hounds play poorly, or is Superior actually good this year? The Hounds haven't lost to Souptown since 03-04, but they do occasionally give them a good game in this rivalry.

For the most part, they (East) look big and slow. Spencer is big enough to need two zip codes. :) Dow is a nice addition, however. Only their second game, so I hope they get it figured out. They have a ways to go to get to the Elks and Indians level.

Tonight's results should make Farmington a top 10 team and Lakeville North #1 but Karl(section 1 hater) East will find a way to discount section 1 results as an outlier and probably even drop North as Edina was over rated.
Lots of games yet to be played though.

No doubt North will be the number one team in the next ranking. Farmington on the other hand will probably not be in the top 10. Beating 3 Rochester teams and playing a team close in a losing effort doesn't automatically make you a top ten team.
Not to mention that they still have to play EP before the next ranking comes out and if they lose that there is no way they're in the top ten. If they win however, they have a shot.

Farmington took the presumed #1 team to overtime and that's their only loss. If they're not a to 10 team there is a bias against them (and there is, East could lose to Ashland and Karl would downplay it) Century is a darn good team that will win 20+ games, their schedule is terrible (I call them East Luverne, good team, awful schedule)

Bashing section1 is fashionable but since 2007 is largely unfounded and in truth there are legitimately 3 top 20 teams in 1AA this year in North, Farmington, and Century. I haven't seen South yet though.

Yeah. That's exactly how Karl operates.

Oh come now, heaven forbid facts and logic get in the way of this little 1AA victim narrative. I mean, I could point out that I've already tweeted who my #1 for next week will be (hint: it's a 1AA team). Or I could point out how many 1AA teams I had in last week's top twenty (hint: it's the same number someone wants to see in this coming week's top 20). Or which team I picked out of all the teams in the state to be the surprise team this season in the Breakdown preseason preview book (hint: it's a 1AA team). Or we could look back at my preseason vs. end of season rankings for Duluth East every year, which I put out for all to see fairly recently (hint: I undersell them more often than I overrate them). But, why bother arguing with someone who's already made up his mind based on one shred of mediocre evidence from last season?

North is #1. Farmington is a real threat, and could be a top 10 team if they beat Eden Prairie tomorrow. Lakeville South, whom I also like, could also make a splash if they perform well against Wayzata. Rochester Century will be hard to rank since Farmington is the only remotely good team they play, but I'll judge them just as I have some other weak-scheduled teams that win 20ish games, like Tartan a couple years back, or a few of those Brainerd teams (hint: none of these teams wound up being all that relevant at season's end). They gave Farmington a decent game, but one narrow loss has never been, and has likely never will be, cause for a drastic shift in the rankings. For anyone.

So what have we learned? Karl has finally admitted he sandbags with his ranking of the Hounds and Goldys head is still spinning from the loud and oversized LN band or hitting his head on a tuba last night. Say what you want but most anyone would pick either Section 1 or 8 as the easiest path yet again since it generally only takes one competitive game. Good stuff for the first week of December.

C'mon Karl....you Underrate East?? That's a bit of a stretch, but it's all good. You do a great job with the rankings, best out there IMO. But the East love comes through pretty good. In your defense on the East issue they do generally pull through by the end of the year to validate(East is blessed with Randolph). Top 10 now they are not.

 Well, here are the historical numbers on East from my rankings, which I'd be curious to see someone read an agenda into (preseason rank-end of regular season rank-State finish):

2009: 6-5-7th
2010: 14-11-5th
2011: 5-7-2nd
2012: 1-1-5th
2013: 7-3-3rd
2014: 16-9-6th

It is true that East teams usually improve over the course of the year, and I bet I could back that up with actual records if I wanted to. Other than years where they have lots of upper-class top-end talent (09, 11, 12), they tend to be a bit flat in December (or even underachieve at times) as they adopt their system before putting things together down the stretch.

I do agree that they haven't looked like a top-10 team through 2 games, and while they have another one today that could tip things one way or the other, they stand a good chance of dropping out this week. (Of course, these things are always dependent on what other teams in the rankings are doing.) But there is a fair amount of talent there, with a couple quality seniors, a junior class that took the Wait-Bellows-Zuhlsdorf Hornets to double-OT in the Bantam AA title game, and a few freshmen off the PeeWee team that gave the undefeated Edina team their biggest test 2 years ago. It's not like Randolph is working with peanuts here. It just may take a while to meld it all together. (And, of course, it isn't a guarantee that it will.)

Eh, I know. And yet I still have a compulsive need to explain myself. And trashing goldy's take was kind a nice release.

Indeed, let there be peace...until the rankings come out tomorrow.
