Northfield is a nice little town. Other than Waseca the rest of 1A sucks.GopherPuck15 wrote:Am I missing something on Northfield? Losses to JM, Century, and Faribault recently, all teams Mankato West has beaten in the last month. I'm not saying I think West is a whole lot better, but just curious why everyone likes Northfield..don't see New Prague losing but need an upset somewhere?
Section 1A
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
Play-In Round
4 Faribault beats 13 Austin
5 LSP beats 12 Winona
6 Red Wing beats 11 Waseca. I could see this going either way though, Red Wing seems to play to the level of their opponents. Goaltending is shaky on both ends as well.
7 Albert Lea beats 10 La Crescent. Should be a tight one, though.
8 Lourdes beats 9 East
4 Faribault beats 13 Austin

I'll take LaCrescent.Roy01 wrote:Play-In Round

elliott07.. I would take them too, if they were at full strength...I think it may be too much for them to overcome.Roy01 wrote:

Reasoning for my guess of Northfield over West is that I expect NP to win the first semifinal on Saturday, and then have West caught looking past their semifinal against Northfield for a rematch with NP.
Although given the ups and downs of the teams in 1A during the season, nothing will surprise me all that much in this bracket.

I do think that is a very good prediction.. It would make sense. No one can look past a game in this section because nothing is going to be a cake walk. I'm looking forward to a great section tournament.Ready2GoYet wrote:Reasoning for my guess of Northfield over West is that I expect NP to win the first semifinal on Saturday, and then have West caught looking past their semifinal against Northfield for a rematch with NP.

Where to go tomorrow is the question.. Great matchups everywhere. Awesome to see!Ready2GoYet wrote:I don't think I can recall so many close first round match-ups----usually scores like the Albert Lea game, not OT or 2OT in the play in games.
Pretty much follows the thoughts by most that this section would be close and fun--looking forward to the action tomorrow night.

New Prague over Lourdes 4-1
West over Albert Lea 3-1
Northfield over Red Wing 5-3
Faribo over LSHSP 4-3
Crazy night of games.
-Nice games by all the lower seeds.. I was at the Albert Lea game, they really took it to an undermanned LaCresent team, AL seem to really wake up after the first 30 seconds. I thought AL may upset West, but West is really on a roll..and looks like Loe is back... Enjoy the Qtrs!

The games haven't been played yet, so maybe you should wait it out another day....grandmeadowhockeyfan wrote:Saturday at the rec center is going to be strange for class A. No Lourdes, albert lea, austin. No teams from the immediate area. Class AA we are used to that with lakeville north and south. And this year Farmington. Mayo or century will have their hands full versus north on Saturday. Wow!
That said, Austin hasn't played a semifinal playoff game at the Rec Center since 2005 when they were in 1AA. Albert Lea hasn't been there since 2012, New Prague has been there every year since coming back to 1A in 2008 except 2012 when #7 Albert Lea beat them in the quarterfinals. Farmington has been there the 3 out of the last 4 years. So, the only unusual thing may be knowing either Lourdes or New Prague won't be there.
