Two thrilling championship games Saturday night that could have gone either way. Congratulations to all participants and to Thief River Falls and Hill-Murray for their wins as well as all other placing teams. Both championship games had similar patterns. Clearly, those of us who picked both champions are going to emerge at the top.
Thanks again to MNHockeyFan for doing the heavy lifting and keeping track of the results and scoring.
In Class A, Blake scored in the 1st, but TRF tied it late in the 2nd, took the lead late in the 3rd and added an empty-netter for the championship. Six contestants picked the Prowlers to win and earned 10 valuable points.
Red Wing captured 3rd place with a 3-2 win over South St. Paul. 18 of us were correct here.
Alexandria won the Consolation championship 1-0 over Hibbing/Chisholm. Only three of us got this one right.
In the Class 2AA nightcap, Minnetonka took the lead 0:21 into the game. The game was played evenly the rest of the way, but Hill-Murray was able to parlay some opportunistic hockey into a 2-1 victory, tying it up in the 2nd, and scoring the game-winner early in the 3rd. Seven of our contestants picked the Pioneers to win. MNHockeyfan, Nordic, and panpan111 were the only contestants to pick the two champion teams.
Edina continued the Lake Conference success with a 3-1 win over Lakeville South for 3rd place. Eight of us had this outcome correct.
In the Consolation championship, Blaine defeated Eastview 4-3 in overtime. 12 of us predicted this result.
Without further ado, the final leaderboard looks like this:
75 MNHockeyFan
73 panpan111
69 Nordic
68 Silent But Deadly
62 Hansenbrother
55 36Guy, topshelfblue
53 u12dad
52 rascalbrock, Sparlimb
50 hugo_lucas
48 goalie.coach.retired
47 nu2hockey, rwb1351, sinbin, spars46, speedskater
46 mnhockey3535
44 massalsa
43 FishEye
41 Knight7, Nimrod
40 1 other
35 1 other
The top 3 podium contestants were indeed those who picked the two champion teams. Congratulations to MNHockeyFan for picking up a well-deserved championship, using his MNHockey knowledge to his best advantage. panpan111's picks could certainly not be panned, as he narrowly missed out on the top prize, but earned 2nd place. And Nordic stoically held onto 3rd place while under predictive fire by Silent but Deadly, who narrowly finished out of the money.
Thanks to all participants here and to the many participants during the course of the season as we predicted weekly, holiday tournament, playoff, and state tournament winners. It's been a long season, so I'm going to take next week off to recuperate in Mexico, but will try to put together a season summary before then. Take care, everyone, and see you next season!

I'm not posting until after MNHockeyFan next time . I clearly need the advice...MNHockeyFan wrote:A special thanks also to sinbin for posting all the game updates and score totals throughout the season. Also have to appreciate his sense of humor and clever pun-making ability, which made me smile so often while reading his summaries...hopefully he will volunteer to do it again next season!
