New Prague Trojans vs Northfield Raiders

Post by urban iceman » Tue Feb 24, 2015 10:41 am

I know it's not as heated and controversial as the 3A Championship tilt  ,but this will be great old rivalry renewed down in Rochester on Wed night! Should be a tight one. Who takes it?

Northfield is trash. The Trojans have a walk to the state tournament that's a joke.

Northfield lost to New Prague 2-3 early in the season. Their worst lost has only been by 3 goals. I've got Northfield winning 2-1 with New Prague outshooting them 36-17.

Not impressed by the fact that Northfield's worst loss is only 3 goals...look at their schedule and pretty sure you won't find anyone besides NP that's in the top 20 at the end of the season in either class.

I watched both semi-final games on Saturday. In the NP vs. Faribo game...Faribo's top line of 16, 17, and 18 were dangerous any time they were on the ice and really made NP pay for their mistakes (3 of the 4 Faribo goals were breakaways I believe). In the end, NP proved to be too much with their 50-17 shot advantage and ability to score in bunches.

In the West vs. Northfield game...West was the more dangerous team offensively IMO with their top line, but they weren't able to capitalize on their opportunities (saw at least 2 missed breakaway opportunities by West). Northfield seemed like a much more balanced team offensively and didn't generate much for scoring chances.

For the Final on Wednesday, I think the result of the West vs. Northfield plays to NP's favor in that NP would have had a more difficult time containing West's top line as they did with Faribo. That being said, I have a hard time believing Northfield will be able to generate more than 1-2 goals against NP. I agree with you that the shots will be well in favor of NP (shots were 40-23 according to Hub in the first meeting). Northfield's goalie will have to come up very big to give the Raiders a chance to win.

I will take NP in a tie for Northfield's worst loss of the season by 3 goals (including an EN), 5-2.

Well said. It will all depend on if Northfields goalie shows up to play.

Northfield lost to WINONA earlier in the year. WINONA is terrible. Yes they outshot them significantly but they still lost the game 2-1. I find that there is no way Northfield can win this game.

Northfield outshot Winona 58-12.. Sometimes crazy things happens, its a part of the game! Northfield just recently beat them 6-2 which proved that first game was a fluke

Agree, Winona has a hard time skating, let alone playing hockey. This game should be running time.

It's one game, a hot goalie, a funny bounce of a puck, a phantom call here or there and anything can happen. New Prague has the better team, but they cannot come in overconfident or play careless with the puck. They let Faribault stay in the game way too long on Saturday. If they make some of those same mistakes Wednesday, they could pay big time. If they come in focused, they should win.

I'm pretty sure Lonke will have them focused.

NP 6, Northfield 3

I would love to see Northfield at the X but NP is so much better. Optimistically I would say 3-1 Northfield (shots around 45-13 NP) with Torbenson hitting the pad in the back of the empty net from behind the blue line, then jumping to the glass near the fan section, which is going absolutely crazy, chanting their goodbyes to NP.

Realistically I have NP 4-1.

I should not have come in here... It's not the skating it's the stick and puck part that make it tricky.

Two 2nd period goals waved off for the Trojans. Both sounded like good goals according to the guys doing PxP

Sounds like NP is carrying the play except for the 5 and 10 given to Alex Gregor of NP. New Prague scored on the PP with 1.6 seconds to go in the 2nd to retake the lead.

If Faribault's goalie doesn't pull his groin in the second period and not tell anyone, NP isn't playing tonight.
