Big names will always make it. Once it is decided that a player is elite at squirts, it is virtually impossible to lose that designation, especially if they have a 'name'. Other evaluators that don't see it don't want to be seen as incompetent so they all go along with it. Would be nice to see a few get knocked off by small association kids, but not ever likely to happen.
I keep hearing about tons of head shaking from scouts other than the "pickers" this year..
As in, it wasn't a quality group of kids this year?
As in, they agreed with the other three (never usually hear complaints about the 15's on here) poster's opinions, that some cruised through on their reputation from peewees. Mostly the choices out of the district festival, but also have heard about the one that went to National Camp that had his district coach say "He has no chance" Never looks up" Not a good hockey player".... But the name hype got him through.

I think there's way more head shaking this year because of the depth of this age group and many of the "names" were outplayed. Even YHH said (hinted) to expect "many new faces" to come out of the group the next couple years.

Very solid group went for the most part, though....

But as we hear... "If you're good, they'll find ya"

You can grow and catch up as a player at 14 and 15, but it takes a lot to dethrown the guys who have been the big talk since 10 years old. Appears that the early commits are trying to hold on best they can. I would have loved to stand next to his "future" coach at the last two festivals.
There's some nipping at his heals, but there's little doubt about him as a player. Jmo

Looking at HP festival performances alone, it seemed that the GAP has closed, and several national camp picks stayed quite status quo. The D1 commit (an example mentioned earlier) obviously has proven skill and a highly decorated past, but was not dominant in any phase of the game during either festival. Other anointed ones were equally disappointing and blended in with the pack as well. Perhaps this year's field had depth, and that accounted for it. That spin certainly sounds more positive. I still believe the HP program to be solid in developing players regardless of who makes the final cut.

Yes, we all hear the good old "If you are good they will find you" quoted over and over again. Works fine if you happen to play where they are already looking, like an Edina, Wayzata, or OMG, but not so much if you happen to play in a smaller town where they don't have much reason to look.

Yes, that quote is how the high profile anointed ones describe it when a kid coming out of nowhere -somehow makes it. I guarantee that this unknown player caught a break somewhere from a rare coach or an evaluator that went against the grain. Or they sought unconventional ways to get to the top.

The true uphill battle of an unknown player verses the high profile elite, is not as simple as being good enough to be found. The history of the high profile elite carries them much longer than it ever should. The nature of an evaluator is to want to get it right, of course. They may see an unknown player having a good tryout and perk up, but when the time comes to push out, or cut a big name, the history trumps all. The evaluators are human, and that's just the way it is.

Consider that there are as many active players from LaCrescent MN playing in the NHL, as there are from Edina. The old "they'll find ya" quote could be inserted here... but look closer. This tells us that the high profile elites have trouble finishing, and that there should be a lot of players between LaCresent and Edina yet to be found.
Anyone who says "you create your own luck," is forgetting someone that happend to give them a break along the way.

Well stated.

Some players get many breaks, a sta player and a hm player are good examples. Saw them play many times, seriously, they are just average ...

But for many others, it is a matter of disappointing now, or disappointing later. It would be a disappointment and slap-on-the-face if a high school eligible goer does not get much playing time or not make the team in the coming high school season.

I see Jupiter!

Nice fluffy recap if the Hp 15 from National Camp on youth hockey hub. Keeping those names fresh and locked in for the next camp. The opinions vary for sure.

Now, those national selects are back to their post high school STP, BEL and development league and tryouts.

How do they do now?

Are they reining all the arena after the NY trip with the paramount-like support by the massive exit from the early rounds?

Or, those in-charge just keep on saying WGAS or >>whoops, I did it again!<<?

Tryouts? Spots are held for them on high school elite or elite prep development league rosters. Tryouts are for everybody else, silly.
