6AA- who goes to state?

Post by green4 » Mon Feb 01, 2016 6:28 pm

It might be a little soon for this conversation, but there has been a lot of discussion lately about this section. Between undefeated Benilde, surging Wayzata and a revamped Edina team, it should be an interesting section tournament. There is still a few games between the teams on the schedule that can help see who is trending in what direction, but what do we think? Who is going to make it to St. Paul?

I hate the fact that Edina and Benilde haven't scheduled or played each other since the 2012 Besse Tournament. Wayzata has played everybody and because of that they are a better team now and I believe their style of play takes them to state. The Trojans beat both Edina and then BSM

Just Curious - can describe what "style of play" Wayzata plays?

Green 4, thanks for setting up this poll

Not exactly random, but out of 17 responders about half favor BSM and the other half is split between Edina and Wayzata

Karl, Tony, Danny. Your thoughts on how/why this differs so much from your recent vote where none of you favored BSM?

I'm going with Edina. It comes down to the X factor and for me that is Giles. Every year he seems to have his teams playing there best hockey come section time. There is no doubt that this year is going to be much more difficult with how well Wayzata is playing lately and the way BSM has been playing all year. It should be fun to watch. Good luck to all the teams! I'm looking forward to the State Tournament.

This is great! So now you ask yourself questions?

Don't you have "NOW" prospects to work on West Metry?

I have to call out the Holy Family guy for being wrong on his facts. BSM has played more "everybody" than Wayzata.

Using the LPH January 27 rankings, BSM has played 2,5,6,7,8,10,12 (next week) 13 and 14. That's not "everybody", but its close.

BSM will also have the experience of four #1 v #2 games after this Sat at EP.

Wayzata has played fewer of these teams (less "everybody"), but about the same number of top 15 games because of its Lake schedule. They have a very strong schedule.

Wayzata is playing very well. Don't bet much money against them. But don't bet much against Edina or BSM either.

Terry- you do realize the LPH rankings are about as good as West Metro/Tony Scotts lists correct?

Edina getting there may sting a little extra hah?

YHH/TS, Danny. Karl

Votes now up to 24 with approx same breakdown; half for BSM, and wayz /Ed split the other half . Comments?

(sigh) Sats, the principle is the same if we use Karl's rankings. Mr. Fire said Wayzata's has played everybody and that has made them a better team than Edina and BSM.

BSM has played about as much of "everybody" as any team and more different ('"everybody") Top 15 teams than Wayzata.

Wrong about the extra sting (pun?) if Edina goes. Sting from BSM not going, yes. But no extra because its Edina. I know almost all the kids, parents and coaches. Its a good bunch. That said, I hope BSM beats them.

Wayzata.

Lets not forget Wayzata lost 7-0 to St Thomas academy and also have other questionable games this season. Yes they have played well past couple games but they have many holes in their game.

Pretty sure it was 5-0 but tied them a week later.

Worst loss of the season was Hill, but that was back in December also and I think that had some players out.
Pretty good run in January

Tue, Jan 5 vs. Farmington L 2-1
Thu, Jan 14 vs. Eden Prairie L 4-2

Sat, Jan 16 at Edina W 3-1
Thu, Jan 21 at Minnetonka W 4-0

Fri, Jan 22 at Grand Rapids W 3-2
Thu, Jan 28 vs. Hopkins W 4-1

Sat, Jan 30 at Eden Prairie W 4-2

Benilde is tough.
Edina maybe playing a little better right now, have an excellent coach, and are EDINA but I think they are a year away from making another run of state appearances. And there only losses are to 5 of the top teams in the state. Beat the #6 and have not played #7 & #8 & #10 (not in any particular order).

So I think I'll go with Benilde.

What the heck, out of no where, Cretin.

Terry Sr. you know better than to try to argue logic with certain forum members or other pundits like YHH or CO. They already know what the schedule has been, no need to rehash it

More importantly tell Terry Junior to take three messages into the locker room:
1) most Pundits are doubters, at least they say so
2) most voter are believers. And the rest give the RK even odds
3) Best way to convert the doubters is to go 24–0 – 1. That way the Pundits will quickly change their mind and claim they were supporters from the beginning. YHH has been known to pull that trick before, although frequently tries to hide it with confusing after the fact logic

West Metry/Tony Scott your posts get better each time! Valium anyone? Yeah, I'm sure Terry is gonna relay your message to his kid to bring into the locker room! This is pure gold. I honestly can't think of anyone's posts I anticipate more!!!

SATs , during Panthers 31 - 0 perfect season, you will recall Eigs and the Capts
frequently had me in the locker room for motivational blades of glory speeches. And special seating at Ames , Aldrich , Shakopee , among others , and of course Rochester , and X .

No, but I had to charge extra for my appearances since I had to travel out of the West Metro

Look, the only outsider allowed last year in the state champs locker room to speak was THE sats. You know, the ugly christmas sweater wearing, pre-game gum chewer who was the head coach of the 1981, 1989, 1992, 1993 and 1994 Jags.

So if this is really you, quit being cryptic and just come out and say it!

Oh, and I still think last years North team gives the 93 Jags a serious run for their money and would put money on them in a 7 game series.

Signed,

Your moniker,

Yes, Jefferson is in the West Metro, so there you go. And I still keep an office at BIG since Im there so much , I almost live there in August for the BEL.

But since Eigs had me down to the South Metro so much, I had the opportunity to extensively watch, compare, and motivate these two undefeated teams. (as well as of course watching the Hill undefeated 1983 team and Hornets 1974)

I do believe if you paired up any of those teams in a series, it would go to the 7th game, and be decided by one goal.

The docs have assured me they will be able to patch me up long enough for the next perfect season in 2035, probably Chanhassen in the West Metro.

OK, Ive strayed too far from the thread topic.

I think it's mostly because we were all trying to pick a few upsets here and there and figured this spot was as good as any to choose one. It's no real judgment on Benilde; just the fact that they're stuck in a very tough section with two teams that both seem to be improving as the season goes along. No matter who BSM plays in the final, it's going to be an awfully tough game, and whoever they play will have less to lose.
