Again - It looks like The AA rankings seem to fall into place by wins and loses a bit, not by SOS, or god forbid any other reliable imperical type of data to reflect talent. The A rankings are just wacked to the point 500 teams, or a game over 500 still gets you a top ten after close to a dozen games. I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings here. But some of those northern teams...w*t*f. These poles seemed to be more about personality contest (ice fishing/beer drinking buddies) more than anything. Maybe it's just a north vs south vs city team thing when these "coaches" are ranking these supposed top ten/twenty teams. It can be the only logical explanation year after year for this crap. It really was more reliable 8 to 10 years ago than it is today. After the number one rankings on the A and the AA side I stop looking. And for those who look after the ten spot, you'll never get back that 30 seconds you just wasted.

oh well...
We have a playoff system and won't pick a champion based on a poll. I doubt any coaches care what they are ranked in December. A lot of teams will end up splitting with teams they just beat or lost to in conference so it needs to play out anyway.

Spot on Foil ... the outstate bias in the AA poll has gone too far. Surely there are two more metro teams that ought to be in the top 20.

I don't get the anger. We're looking at 1/3 of the AA teams (there are only 61). Who is missing here that should be ranked?

Maybe the rankings should instead change to Section rankings to give people a better idea of who the favorites are to go to state. For example, 3 of the top 7 teams are in Section 5. Ranking Maple Grove against Blaine and Centennial might be a better driver of debate than ranking Maple Grove against Elk River. I would enjoy posts diving into section rankings. These state rankings aren't of much utility.

Not a poll but this site gives you each team's record within the section. Good handy reference.

This site does have the QRF rankings which they use for the section rankings, plus the KRACH has sectional rankings.

It is really interesting when you compare all four (4) of the ranking systems and see how each reaches their respective lists...

the weekly changes in each is telling in how each system places value on the previous weeks play..revealing each system's "bias" as to what has value
