Just for fun I'll say

Pool 1 - Duluth East ....Unknown Player- LS' Cade Ahrenholz/Griffin Ludtke

Pool 2 - Holy Family ....Unknown Player- LN's Mitch Kohner/Shane Griffin while Wayzata has Ryan Mulrenin... not many know about but they will.

Pool 3 - Maple Grove ....Unknown Player- MG's Kyle Kukkonen and Justin Janicke... this pool shouldn't even be close. Will be interesting to see GR's Hunter Bischoff and Cooper Brodzinski on the team.

Pool 4 - Elk River ....Unknown Player- Elks Austen Humphrey and Zach Michaelis two awesome forwards. Buffalo's Jake Braccini is the best sophomore in the state...period. Get to know him.

Pool 5 - Orono ....Unknown Player- Orono's 2016 & 2015 Bantam A state championships should help this team win this pool.

Ship Title Game: Holy Family vs. Elk River *Humphrey, Michaelis and Perbix becomes the new Hain, Mclaughlin, Miller line in the state

Where do you see Elk in Section 7 seeding and in preseason state ranking?

I think by season's end their awesome forwards Perbix, Humphrey and Michaelis along with an underrated defenseman Nick Neilson lead them to the 1 seed in section 7.

Preseason- In other words before anyone knows anything about the newcomers on teams.

1. Moorhead
2. Duluth East
3. Holy Family
4. Edina
5. STA
6. Elk River
7. Tonka
8. Maple Grove
9. Eden Prairie
10. Centennial

HOF, thanks for perspective! What is the latest on Fire likely early departs?

Looking back at Hockey Hub and YHH 2017-18 rankings put out last spring, neither had ELK in top 10, and most had ELK in 3rd or 4th seed in 7AA,
Will be interesting to see if your thoughts help grab others attention, and where ELK will be ranked in October. (Also, Benny Meyers was 3 year starter in goal, and Wiest graduated also, will goaltending be a concern?)

Yes Braccini has talent, but more than Gleason, Lavelle, Brink?

I don't think goaltending will be a problem unless Ihle Majeres gets hurt. Elk won the Blue Ox tournament last year and looked great doing so. Can't comment on Holy family you'll just have to see in July. As for Jake Braccini he had 140 points last year and projects to be a defenseman in High school. I think if he is on any team other than Buffalo he would produce another high volume of points more so than Brink, Lavelle and Gleason. Watch him and see for yourself.

Some other great new forwards not in the summer tournament include Stillwater's Noah tussey, Tonka's Teddy Lagerback, Edina's Demetrios Koumontzis, Moorhead's Michael overbo, Centennials de-man AJ lemire and St. Clouds Blake Perbix.

Hockey on Fire...question

Post by CakeScout17 » Wed Jul 05, 2017 9:59 pm

as you seem to be in the know...

You mention D. Koumontzis as forward for Edina...so he is officially returning from Arz for '17-18 at EHS than off to GB Gamblers for '18-19? At least thats what Ive heard...maybe S. Walker convinced him to return to 'The Bubble' for a title run. They'll need Sammy to do so...IMO.
Now? maybe DK can convince J. Jensen to transfer back from EP and for the trifecta? Lets get Silianoff back from SSM and really put out the full Hornet squad and grab the next 2 titles! July fun...!
Im just joshin'...but fun to discuss!

Fire, I completely agree with your take on Braccini.......outside of that I think you're out ahead of yourself a little bit on the impact some of the young players you mention will have this upcoming season. The Freshman group probably doesn't have the high end depth some recent classes have had to have the kind of impact you're describing. Time will tell I guess.

Buffalo

I watched Buffalo scrimmage Rogers while I was picking up my son from the rink. Braccini and Ward along with another kid who had on a Iowa Wild helmet looked really impressive. Hearing rumors Ward is going to the Wilderness now. That would be a shame. Buffalo would be a sleeper if they had Ward the Braccini's along with the goalie Mueller and the other pieces.

Not to throw cold water on HOF but I think a little restraint on the Elks is in order. They have some potential and need Perbix to play his junior year with them to have any shot. Goaltending has been an issue since The Franke and Berglove era. If ER and Rapids switched goalies last season what would have been the results? Do they have a goalie that can steal a game? If they did I would be more hopeful. With that said there are some talented kids ready to take their shot.

Exciting super talented Hounds team Will likely face a tenacious upstart Eastview team in the championship game here at Braemar

Hounds beat Wayzata in their semi final game in overtime

Eastview ahead prior Lake by 1 after 1 on Pp goal, on a questionable penalty at the two minute mark

No doubt YHH, Danny and Karl will provide blow-by-blow Twitter updates

----------
EV wins 2-1, PL gets robbed of a final offensive zone face-off for a chance to tie, with 2 seconds left

As always, a great write up, Karl. As someone who played hockey for a (crummy) New England D3 school many years ago, I am interested in following Konin's performance at EP since there are so few comparison points between MN high schools and stronger prep school programs like Kimball Union, where Konin played the past few years.

Did you have a chance to watch Buffalo play, or at least chat with anyone about their games? I am curious to see how quickly Jake Braccini and the other incoming sophomore talent will come up to speed.

I did not get to see Buffalo. The only person I talked to who saw them said they seemed very, very raw, but the potential was definitely there.

I think they have a good shot at a top-4 seed in 8AA...Moorhead's the obvious #1, but after that it's probably some mix of Brainerd, the Bison, and maybe Bemidji.

I think Roseau, StM-A and even St Cloud will be in the mix for a home seed.

Bemidji will depend on how well the first line scores and if they can find 6 good defenders for line 2 & 3.
But the bigger question is how well the D progress from last year.
Goalie will be just fine.
The new coach is good but again new (did coach varsity a few years back).
