Tournament Fees - What does your association cover?

Post by blueline_6 » Mon Oct 23, 2017 9:26 am

Just curious, don't need to provide your association name.

Our association used to only cover registration fee, if there was a separate gate fee that was the responsibility of the team. However with the seemingly increased move by most associations to combine registration and gate fees into one registration fee and advertise "no gate fee" we ended up in situations where some teams had gate fees to pay and some didn't. That didn't seem fair, especially since the association is picking the tournaments before teams are formed. So now our association covers everything so that families don't have any surprise expenses after teams are formed.

What are other associations doing with tournament fees?

Our association doesn't cover any of it. The team covers it all.

Our association pays for all the teams tourneys thanks to the people that play pull tabs, there was 1 tourney last year in Superior that the coach did not know about the separate gate fee and we all paid the $10 more a kid to cover it.

We did via pulltabs.....then the state took a significant portion of our pulltab money to pay for the Vikings stadium. We give far less to youth sports and Legion baseball than we used to.....thanks Zygi Wilf, Mark Dayton, et al.

I would be interested to hear more details on this as it really doesn't make sense.

The state guaranteed a certain amount of "etab" money forthe Vikings stadium. Any deficit was made up on taxes on charitable gambling. So if our "projected"etab gambling didn't meet the Vikings projection we had to make it up.

Pull tab income is finate, allowing egames to pay for the Vikings stadium wrongly assumed pull tab revenue would increase due to etabs. All deficits are passed on to charitable gaming, not the Wilfs.

That is unfortunate. It didn't seem to affect our pull tabs much either way up here.

Our association pays for all tournament and gate fees. It is all included in our registration fee at the beginning of the year. Same with ice time fees. We are fortunate to make some decent cash in fundraising, pull tabs and sponsorships. We don't have team checkbooks.

Yes, we field some complaints that certain teams get more games or more ice time, as it is impossible to make it all 100% equal. However, when you explain that it costs the association about $2,000 per skater for Bantams and we only charge $900 for registration fees people tend to back down quick. (Those numbers are estimates as my kids are out of youth hockey.) I would imagine most associations have a similar situation and I wish people would understand that most hockey boards work their tails off to keep hockey as affordable as possible.
