Hopkins/Lake Conference
Does anyone know why Hopkins only plays each Lake Conference team once this year? They are still listed as being in the Lake but with only half the games as the other teams, it's (obviously) impossible for them to win the conference.
Re: Hopkins/Lake Conference
Each game is worth 4 points instead of playing two games for two points a piece. Frees up schedule space for other Lake teams to play non-conference games against higher ranked opponents, and allows Hopkins to do the same against more commonly skilled opponents.tonkafan77 wrote:Does anyone know why Hopkins only plays each Lake Conference team once this year? Each of the other Lake teams play each other twice though? Does only one of those games count for 4 points? Tonka beat EP last night in their first of 2 meetings and on Hockey Hub, it is listed that Tonka has 2 points.bardown27 wrote:Each game is worth 4 points instead of playing two games for two points a piece. Re: Hopkins/Lake Conference
When they play each other twice, each game is only worth 2 points. So 2 games at 2 points a piece = 4 points. Hopkins plays each teach once for 4 points. So 1 game at 4 points = 4 points.tonkafan77 wrote:Each of the other Lake teams play each other twice though? Re: Hopkins/Lake Conference
Makes sense. Just strange that it wouldn't be uniform among all the teams in the conference (ie each play each other twice or each play each other once)bardown27 wrote:When they play each other twice, each game is only worth 2 points. Too much skin would be in a one game for 4 points for teams like Edina, Minnetonka and in most years Wayzata and EP if those 4 only played each other once. Those 4 teams contend every year and play each other close. Whereas for Hopkins, why go get potentially blown out twice, when you can play only once and then schedule a game against say Chan or Holy Angels, someone that it will be a close game against.
Some teams in the Wright County only play Holy Family once for the same reason, teams in the Big Nine who are farther (Mankatos) only play the Rochester schools and Winona once for 4 points.
Just some of the common ones I know off the top of my head.

Metro East Conference follows a similar format, where Hill Murray, STA, and Mahtomedi play each other twice, but play the other conference teams only once.bardown27 wrote:Too much skin would be in a one game for 4 points for teams like Edina, Minnetonka and in most years Wayzata and EP if those 4 only played each other once. From what I have seen, conferences need to have uniform membership across all sports, with the exception of football and specialized sports like lacrosse with a limited number of teams participating. I assume there’s a relevant bylaw governing this somewhere in the handbook if I had the ambition to look.tonkafan77 wrote:I agree. Might be time for Hopkins to find another conference and have HF join the Lake...
Or do conferences need to be uniform throughout all sports?
Duluth East and Grand Rapids are good examples, as both compete as independents in all sports.
