Duluth's been trying to colonize Proctor forever. Starting with their best hockey players.

Edina roster and G situation:

I'm going to have to nagivate this delicately.
More will be revealed as time marches on...esp around the rinks this coming wknd.
Let's just say, this is NOT the final Edina roster. You'll see 2-3 players go up and down esp between now & Xmas. Totally normal, most teams do it.
After the Holiday tourney at Dakotah the roster will lock in (minus an injury and/or severe slump by a player - again, totally normal).

This 'pre-season roster' is also somewhat shaped by an unfortunate incident that impacts this weekends' Turkey Trot games. Let's just say the roster will be thinned by 2-3 players. Who, specifically? 2nd and 3rd liners. Not at liberty to say why/what but full Edina roster will not 'truly' be showcased until 11/29 vs. BSM then, as aforementioned, 'locked-in' post Dakotah tourney.

That said, one tidbit flying under the rafters at NHIA this Fall was the talent & work ethic of 'mystery incoming Edina goalie' had led certain player(s) to question their future on the team/love of the game after a very average showing last season that included not completely having one's head in the game, not once, but twice. The writing was on the wall...some kids w/ average talent have to work extra hard, some have more God-given talent and dont work hard, a select few do both and want more - those afraid to compete w/ the latter simply fade away. Some realize their path is in a different sport - nothing wrong w/ that. Much as Giles loves senior goalies he just might be starting a sophomore G sooner than later. Really? Giles? C'mon! Yep.

I have seen clips on youtube (yes, they're edited and he's not facing 18 yr olds) but I have seen 'The Secret' in person as well.
Yes, I've seen 'The Secret' from Mystery, Alaska? (j/k). I think Edina may have found a goalie. It's been rumored he's from Alaska, then it was North Carolina, etc. inclusive of stops w/ the Colorado TBirds??? Others who know more can clear that up but my scout sheets list Edina, MN as 'place of birth' so, for now I'll take that and let's start there.

It's going to be FUN to watch him develop as The Secret is only a SOPHOMORE!
Coming out of the net, cutting angles, the anchoring, the lateral quickness, the glove all guided by keen vision is, at first glance? Most impressive.
Ok, I'm admittedly choking on cake now so I'll stop. Heck, goalies are quirky and it takes time to adjust to varsity level, but he's definitely got 'IT'.

The Secret's first name is 'Louden' and it will no longer simply be an obscure reference to Matthew Modine's character in 'Vision Quest' (circa, '85).
(Although for any home games Louden starts Braemar staff should play 'Lunatic Fringe' by Red Rider! Just sayin'...)

The BAA #1 goalie is going to give him a run next year....the one who just shut out Shattuck. He has improved greatly from year to year. No reason to think his development stalls out now.

Hahahahaha - That was funny! Good thread going here. Wait, its OK to compliment others and not always head down the road of social media vitriol, right? Oh well, like I care, anyway. Deal with it or delete.

Ok - the reference to 'The Secret' and 'Mystery' was as much as L Hogg was on local Fall team and has a Elite Prospects page - you're right. It's meaningless. Its more of a tongue-in-cheek referral to some of those in the Fall Elite circles and Cake sources, players, etc. that kept so tight-lipped about his name, background, what led him/family to 'return' to Edina...and since it was originally rumored he was coming in from Alaska I added the movie reference as a meager chuckle to backfill the story.

He's a young kid. We don't all need to know everything...but usually in these circles there's no holding back...e.g., last year w/ DK's arrival.

As far as the 'unfortunate incident'? Yes, think old school, campfire fun and house parties...no video, no 4k downloads, nothing AT ALL of the scary modern day fiascos. A learning experience for sure but no darkness.

And well put, good luck to Louden, and all the players. We blog a lot, we enjoy following it all to help us get through winter but good health and good times to all the players and fans!

I'm assuming you're referring to G- Liam Sebek. Yep, he's a good one. He was one that I listed as an up & comer this past late July. I think it was in response to West Metro inquiry on future of Edina goalies. All of that sparked the thread of the 'Mystery, Alaska' goalie which turned out to not be true. But we are glad he's here. Sebek is solid. Great future. But eye test? Louden is...well, we shall see. Great to have up and comers to look forward to. Now the trick will be to KEEP Jimmy Clark at Edina through senior year! Could be tough task. Fingers crossed!

Elliott, have both Johanns and Waldhausen competed all of the top secret rigorous Bemidji goalie training , to prep them to place their names in long running Jacks list of top 10 statewide goaltenders?

Well, yes, but unproven on any major level.
I think it will be a season of committee until one or the other steps up.
The next real good one is in peewees unless the bantam guys put a little more work in.

Well, hearing that it was an old school style of suspension bust, I'm rather proud of the kids...

Is it too late to sign up for the cross country team to start the clock on those 2 weeks?

Breck Roster

Post by Stang5280 » Wed Nov 21, 2018 3:48 pm

I'm not sure anyone else on the board cares, but here is Breck's varsity roster (asterisk indicates captain).

17 Alex Williamson F 12
22 Beau Courneya* F 10
1 Blake Grant G 11
4 Cade Berman D 10
11 Carter Oftedahl F 10
23 Carter Theissen D 9
10 Chase Larson F 12
27 David Ruiz D 12
42 Hudson Haecker F 12
28 Jake Hanson F 10
26 John Blake* D 11
7 Matthew Conroy* F 12
19 Maverick Pink D 10
16 Michael Johnson F 11
24 Michael Kenney* F 12
25 Nick Mikan F 9
12 Quinton Wormald D 12
30 Sean Reiling G 11
15 Will Surucu F 12
29 Zach Sellman F 10

The good news is that there are 13 returning lettermen, so there is some experience on the roster. However, over 60% of the goals and total points from last season are gone, as are both goalies.

As for the the remainder of the roster, four are moving up from JV and three are newcomers. I'm disappointed not to see more new blood coming into a program that needs a jolt, but that should happen next year, and there are a handful of talented freshmen and sophomores.

(Side notes: Nick Mikan is George's great-grandson. Also, I’m not convinced that Maverick Pink is a real name.)

I (We) just figured out who Stang is LOL
A Breck alumnus who still follows the team and has a few connections there? I’ll also volunteer that I no longer live in Minnesota, and my location should be easy to deduce from my user name.

Beyond that, I’m not sure what you’re getting at. Call to paraphrase the late Denny Green: “I’m not who you think I am! If you want to crown my [behind], then crown it!”

(Happy Thanksgiving in any event.)
