Re: Games Saturday 12/22
Moorhead and Rapids scoreless after 2. Even though the Spuds are out shooting them about 20-4, the message about lack of hustle is evident in the Thunderhawks game today. Clafton is solid again today. GR doing a nice job of not allowing many second chances.

Moorhead 1-0 over GR. Was hoping they could steal one late but the Spuds did what they had to with 3:26 left in the game. Much better effort today by Rapids.
Re: Games Saturday 12/22
A few finals of Class A games I watched to varying degrees...
Mound Westonka 3, Minneapolis 1 (ENG)
Minneapolis outshot Mound and had some nice scoring chances thanks to their speed advantage up front. The Mound goalie was outstanding, however, and stoned at least two breakaways. Mound moves to 9-2, though I can’t say I’ve been impressed in the three or so times I have seen them play.
Breck 4, Virginia 2
(No announcemers and bad camera angle, so it wasn’t the easiest to follow.) The Blue Devils definitely had an advantage in possession time and shots, but Breck did a good job of keeping shots to the outside and limiting scoring chances, along with solid play between the pipes. The Mustangs were the faster team and had a few pretty goals. I can see where people would be disappointed in Virginia’s performance this season.
No score posted on the Hub, but during the 3rd period of the Mound game it was mentioned that Orono was up 4-0 on Kennedy.

Re: Games Saturday 12/22
Made it to game in Chaska. Standing room only crowd a couple people deep (got there early because I knew parking would be a disaster). I must say it didn't disappoint as some posters assumed it might.
Chaska without head coach Snuggerud and top 4 senior D Bronson due to game misconducts at the end of game earlier this week. Chaska also lost another of their top 4 D in Magnuson early in 2nd period due to injury (not sure what or how severe but he was out for game).
Tonka came out strong with two quick goals and I was thinking it might indeed turn out to be a running time game. Hawks settled in nicely though and played right there with the Skippers. Chaska scored midway through the 2nd to bring it to 2-1 and you could just sense the tension among Minnetonka players. Chaska had a goal disallowed for high sticking in the 3rd that would have tied it up 2-2. I think it was the right call from my vantage but definitely very close (for what its worth Chaska had a goal called off in the first as well for what appeared to be the net being off, but the net was never fixed, so not sure exactly what happened there). Hawks made a nice push towards the end with some breakaways and a crossbar in the final couple minutes, but an empty-netter sealed it.
My takes: Skippers very deep with solid players, and they all play a fairly conservative, mistake-free, puck-moving game. Goaltending was solid but Glockner actually seemed a bit off on a couple plays with loose pucks and rebounds just sitting on the doorstep. He made some game-saving breakaway saves in the 3rd though. After Tonka's 2nd goal Chaska was able to neutralize the elite talent in Lagerback, Bayless, Docter, and Luedtke, and there wasn't much else for high quality chances from their remaining players.
Chaska looked solid and did a great job defensively considering the total shots and play seemed about even without 2 of their top 4 D. Some concern that they couldn't seem to bury it with all of their chances, but I suppose they get a bit of a pass given their competition. Unfortunately for the Hawks, they can't seem to put this type of an effort forth consistently, and they're going to need more than moral victories or solid efforts to get out of 2AA.

Nice analysis 62!
What were Chaska's first two lines makeup last night?
Were Pitlick , Warnert , Lavelle together or split?

Not sure which line was technically considered “first” or “second” as they seemed pretty interchangeable. Pitlick Warnert and #20 McDonald were one group and Lavelle, Olmscheid, and Benz the other. Thought they each matched up well with Minnetonka’s top 2 lines. At least 2 of Tonka’s 3 goals (non-EN) were scored with Chaska’s 3rd line out.

Since Chaska was at home & had last change...that’s a bit of an indictment regarding Chaska’s coachesThatMNHockeyGuy62 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 11:26 amNot sure which line was technically considered “first” or “second” as they seemed pretty interchangeable. How so? 3rd line scoring vs 3rd line is more of a depth indictment than matchup. Snuggerud was out so there could be something to that, though I don’t think he typically runs lines anyhow, and again Chaska seemed to effectively match top 2 with top 2 and 3rd line vs 3rd line.hockey59 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 12:42 pmSince Chaska was at home & had last change...that’s a bit of an indictment regarding Chaska’s coachesThatMNHockeyGuy62 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 11:26 amNot sure which line was technically considered “first” or “second” as they seemed pretty interchangeable. Re: Games Saturday 12/22
62 Or anyone else who is at this game, did you happen to notice if Koster was always/mostly on the ice when 3rd line was out there ? And which Hawks led the forecheck effort ?
Re: Games Saturday 12/22
I wasn’t at the game - if the 2 goals scored against Chaska’s 3rd line was by the Tonka 3rd line...then I stand correctedThatMNHockeyGuy62 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 1:35 pmHow so? 3rd line scoring vs 3rd line is more of a depth indictment than matchup. It all happens quick so I can’t be positive, though I believe that was the case.hockey59 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 2:04 pmI wasn’t at the game - if the 2 goals scored against Chaska’s 3rd line was by the Tonka 3rd line...then I stand correctedThatMNHockeyGuy62 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 1:35 pmHow so? 3rd line scoring vs 3rd line is more of a depth indictment than matchup. Re: Games Saturday 12/22
My first time seeing Chaska this year and I thought Pitlick was tremendous and there are some nice complimentary players as well. Didn't notice Koster at all which is fine in the defensive zone but bad when on offense.
The waived off goal for the high stick was the right call.
The CHBS announcers said the Chaska goal possibly went in off a ref's skate but there's no replay so...
Chaska did a good job of keeping Tonka to the outside and if they counted blocked shots Tonka would have had a few dozen. But outside of a few minutes of sustained pressure and solid plays by Pitlick, Chaska never really threatened. It was easily the worst played game by Tonka of the few that I've watched online so far.
