Thanks for updates on that game. It should be a good one, and I wish it was streaming online.

Orono scores early in the second to draw even with Mound Westonka 1-1.

Update:
Mound 1, Orono 1 after two.
Shots 21-14 in favor of Orono.

Update:
Mound buries two chances early in third to go up 3-1.

Update:
3-3 heading to OT.
Orono scores in 6 on 4 situation with about 30 seconds left to tie it.

Update:
Mound Westonka wins 4-3 in OT.
Shots 35-26 Orono.
I have watched a handful Mound games, and this was by far their best performance. The final two goals were off sloppy plays from Orono, but credit to Mound for taking advantage of their chances. Coley was also great in net for the White Hawks, stopping several premium opportunities.

Sounds like a barn burner in Roseau. Was anyone there that has some color commentary?

Hermantown scores early in second to go up 2-0 on Greenway. Raiders about to go on PP.

Update:
Hermantown 3, Greenway 0 after two.
Don’t know shots, but they are hugely in favor of Hawks. Basically a cat toying with its prey.

Thought East side outplayed Roseau, as the shots would indicate. Roseau is still battling illness as Hanson O’Leary the second line center was out sick. To me that lead to the Landon Parker second line of egf being a mismatch for roseau (it could have been even with Hanson but for sure less so).

Lee had a nice game for the Rams. He seemed poised and never out of position. While Roseau didn’t generate a lot of shots they did generate a few good chances(all three goals were point blank from the slot).

Overall a fun game to watch. East side is a fast team and having seen the 3 major players in the section they have me convinced they will be the representative out of 8A.

Chanhassen (who just beat Champlin albeit without Boynton in net) lost to Kennedy 2-0. Let the transitive property continue to fly.

Definitely a game that Chanhassen shouldn’t lose, but Kennedy has improved significantly after a brutal start to the season. They have snuck up on a few teams now.

Shots are 34-7. Seems like Greenway has called it a season.

Hermantown 4, Greenway 0 final.
42-13 shots.
Yeah, it’s too bad. You could see the talent flash at times for the Raiders, but they just don’t have the depth to keep up with HT, and they couldn’t maintain any zone time. It seems like the brutal schedule is starting to take its toll on Greenway and they looked worn out.

Yeah I don’t know what the shots were but although Chan seemed to control zone time a bit more, especially at the end when they were pushing, Kennedy held the offensive zone for some prolonged periods. Though they didn’t have anybody I would consider explosive or dangerous, Kennedy had a couple of solid defensemen (assuming one was Beacom) who were shifty and could move the puck well. With as open as section 2A is, they could be one of several surprising teams there to make some noise.

Those two OT losses against Chaska and Orono seems to have sucked the life out of them. If they could have won even one of them they’d have hope. Mustering only 12 shots against an slightly above average AA Roseau was a telling sign. Expect them to lose to Bemidji on Saturday.

Went up to Hermantown to watch the Hawks play Greenway tonight. Greenway did a respectable job of weathering an early storm and had a mini surge late in the 1st that momentarily had me thinking it might turn into a game, but then Pierce scored with 30 seconds left and Hermantown didn't really look back after that. The Hawks' top line is in the conversation for the best in the state, the second line matches up well with other teams' top lines, and the defense seems somewhat improved over a season ago. Biondi is a ton of fun to watch.

The asterisk on this game for me was the absence of Lantz and Troumbly for Greenway. For a team that really relies on the star power of five or six players, being down two of those players takes them from a team that could stick around with Hermantown and make things interesting to a team that gets steamrolled like any other good-but-not-great A team playing Hermantown. They got good goaltending and largely played respectable defense, but the jump wasn't there, and players like Lawson were being left out for some brutally long shifts. If those two injured players are healthy in sections (and that sounds like it may be a big if in Troumbly's case?), one could see this game being interesting again.

For now, though, the king of 7A is still very much the king.
