Does anyone know if Andover and Minnetonka have to play both goalies during the game? If so, advantage Huskies!

It's not required, but more of a gentleman's agreement between the coaches in HDM games that everyone gets to play.Lostmyedge wrote: ↑Wed Jan 16, 2019 5:34 pm Does anyone know if Andover and Minnetonka have to play both goalies during the game? If so, advantage Huskies!

Swenson had a shutout last night- think he’s given up 1 goal in 3 games??
Hub says he’s got 2 assists this year

Bemidji will do an awesome job hosting. Great location. My squad played outside 8 times last year. If it gets down around zero...it is really tough. Especially with any wind. Sounds like they are taking every precaution available to mitigate the cold. I will be up in Cloquet chasing kid #2 around the rinks. I will try to keep one eye on the TV. Have a great HDM everyone!

We evidently have gotten soft over the years. Roseau and Blaine played outdoors in Baudette with windchills that went below -35!
We've got 7 yes we do, we've got 7, how about you!

Has the formal decision been made yet regarding indoor vs. outdoor?Green and White Fan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 8:42 am We evidently have gotten soft over the years. Roseau and Blaine played outdoors in Baudette with windchills that went below -35!

We're heading over from Hibbing tomorrow morning. As long as the wind isn't blowing like it did in Rapids a handful of years ago, this should be an awesome day!

One thing I noticed on FSN feature during the Wild game, why are the bleachers so far away from the rink? You could drive a truck between the boards and the first row. Also, they should be elevated a bit. The first row tickets should have a disclaimer of obstructed view.

Probably a bad decision they're trying to avoid repeating?Green and White Fan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 8:42 am We evidently have gotten soft over the years. Roseau and Blaine played outdoors in Baudette with windchills that went below -35!
I don't know what the magic temperature is - and when I was a kid the 1 year I didn't make traveling team the majority of our games were outdoors and we survived. But at some point the temperature becomes risky for players and possibly unbearable for those attending the game.
Re: Hockey Day in MN
Tomorrow the wind should not be much of a factor so things should be okay.
Tonight while I am standing outside and it is -15 or so I will have to remind myself how nice it will be in the morning at 9:30 game time and it will be warm at -6.
The players will keep their shifts short to get back to the heater in the box.

Also, the WCHA has allowed tonight's game to have a couple of extra minutes added onto the intermissions so the players and coaches can warm back up.elliott70 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 1:05 pm Tomorrow the wind should not be much of a factor so things should be okay.

This is fine for the skaters but what about the goalie?elliott70 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 1:05 pm Tomorrow the wind should not be much of a factor so things should be okay.

JV games were played outside as well as a varsity girls' game.
If he gets cold they will have to change up, call time out or do something.
Its not like teams have never played outdoors before.

Agree, tomorrow will be a great day for hockey. No more talking about the weather you softies. I can guarantee you the players and the coaches are looking forward to playing outside. As for the goalies, the one that DOES NOT wear a toque will win the game. Never understood what yarn over plastic does to keep one warm. GBIts not like teams have never played outdoors before.

So -20 degree weather for an outdoor game isn't a legitimate talking point?GoldenBear wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 2:51 pmAgree, tomorrow will be a great day for hockey. Goalies will have to take shifts like skaters! Re: Hockey Day in MN
I'm not sure if this applies but for what it's worth:
From the MSHSL WEATHER CONDITIONS AND COMPETITION BOARD POLICY
Prior to the start of a contest, the host school is responsible for determining whether or not the conditions present a threat
to the safety of participants and spectators and will determine whether or not the contest will begin. Once the contest
begins, the officials have the authority to postpone or suspend a contest due to unsafe weather conditions -- that decision
may not be overruled. School officials also still have this authority. On-site medical professionals should also be
consulted and included in the decision-making process.
CANCEL OR POSTPONE:
• Competiton >1 minute duration at -4°F
• All Activity at -20°F for or at -40° Wind Chill

Re: Hockey Day in MN
I’d rather talk about the game players and festivities...as any good coach would say...don’t worry about the weather!
Re: Hockey Day in MN
Ok GB
Have seen both Glockner and Fritsinger recently , they are both really really good and should be Brimsek finalists . Andover may have the edge on the second goalie, Swenson, in rotation, especially since Brown only has 17 minutes this year.
Certainly like Luedtke and Doctor , but Kaiser and Wolfe not far behind , 3 committed now and Wolfe will follow someday . A question whether Luektke and Doctor will be paired again, or separate if Miller not in lineup
Schoen and Dainty probably faster and better pure snipers than any Tonka F, If they get a good look they can get it by Glockner , but Huskies probably don’t quite have the forward depth that the Skips do
Both great coaches , Manney underrated
Anything can happen , but I still think Tonka first loss will be be vs Edina , since they took care of EP at EP last nite
Latest NWS says -21 air temp at gametime
