High school tournament may use INSTANT REPLAY

Post by blueline » Thu Nov 17, 2005 5:26 pm

Last night on KSTP they had a story about using instant replay for the state hockey and football tournaments. In three weeks the Minnesota State High School League will be voting on it. What are your thoughts on this? You can see the footage at www.kstp.com

I'm sure most Moorhead fans are for it.
Unfortunately, its a day late & dollar short if they pass it.

I'm all for it, though.

Pretty sure the Holy Angels fans wouldn't mind it too much either, don't forget they had the same thing against Centennial a couple years back.

If it can help the referees make the right call, I'm all for it. Just make sure it has little if any effect on the pace of the game.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... RLStars at: 11/18/05 8:57 am

Two good reasons, or two bad reasons? Why put the gamein the hands of technology. No need for refs pretty soon....
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Back in the hands of the players....by SS

Comon Zamman,

It would put the game back in the hands of the players.

If instant replay shows that a goal was earned for instance, then the players that earned that goal would be rewarded like they should have been last year during the AA championship game when Moorhead scored that goal.

It was the refs that screwed that up, not the players.

Maybe the refs couldn't tell for sure, but that is precisely why they should have counted that goal!

The players knew for sure, especially AHA's netminder and Cory Johnson!

The game shouldn't be in the refs hands except to call penalties along with their other duties.

Instant replay could usually be very helpful to them also.

If the camera's and the refs both miss the truth of any particular situation then the crowd as well as the teams could have something to cheer /whine <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> about.

S S

Part of the Game!

There is no place for instant replay in high school sports. It is just a game and the officials are just a part of the game. Are they perfect? Never, but if they can't provide instant replay for each and every sport, it has no place in hockey.

Replay or not to replay that is the question

Post by crosscheck » Fri Nov 18, 2005 2:54 pm

It is obvious for many to agree with an instant replay at the state tournament specifically when trying to decide on a champion. However, the question must be raised on replay in any section playoff game also.

We could have a team winning the state tournament by getting the advantage of an instant replay on a goal allowed or disallowed, but the same team could have advanced into the tournament due to a questionable goal where replay was not available.

So the question is, when should it come into play? If it is just in the state tourney, but not in section playoffs it is not worth having it at all.

Come on? what do you mean. Instant replay will take the game out of the game. There will be more looking at the instant relay than the game itself. And when there is a call that changes the face of the game, someone is going to come back with how bad it was to incorporate this into the high school tournament.
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Replay

Good points for both sides on this one. I however think that if it is done right and doesn't delay the game too long, then why not make sure the right call is made in games as important as the state tournament. People say that human error is part of the game, but why does it have to be? Tradition is fine, but improvements are even better. I say go with the replay for a year or two as a trial period, and take it from there.
