McLeod, W. Shaver & Matvick To Call Tourney
In honor of the 75th High School Hockey Tournament, channel 45 has invited back Doug McLeod, Wally Shaver & Clay Matvick to call some games.
Former Gopher Hockey TV play-by-play man Frank Mazzocco declined & current Baltimore Orioles TV voice Gary Thorne has a scheduling conflict.
Jim Erickson will also return to call the tournament.

SOB. Just can’t get rid of that McLeod guy. At least Clymer won’t be joining him.Bigdaddy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 6:52 am In honor of the 75th High School Hockey Tournament, channel 45 has invited back Doug McLeod, Wally Shaver & Clay Matvick to call some games.

Thank God its not LaPanta.
Re: McLeod, W. Shaver & Matvick To Call Tourney
McLeod is awful. Wouldn't have minded hearing Mazzocco.

Heard they’re working on Jim Carr. The Chiefs are off for a few days so I think he will make it.

Can’t they find anyone better than McLeod? He has zero personality with all his go to material from the 70’s

I would like to see Chris Cuthbert back to call games for the tourney, but his work for TSN and NBCSN probably keeps him tied up a bit. One of the more underrated voices in hockey, IMO.

Cuthbert would be a huge get. Still remember the days he called games for Hockey Night in Canada. Always enjoyed his call on the games (and his banter back and forth with Don Cherry).
Re: McLeod, W. Shaver & Matvick To Call Tourney
Doug McClown will ruin the experience. I am so glad I will be there in persons so I do not have to listen to his boring cliche's and poor play calling.
Listen to him on Gopher broadcasts, I just hate it.

These games going to be available online for free? Or do you have to pay for a package?

And for those who think they can call play by play go ahead and try. Hockey is one of the toughest sports out there to do(again spoken from experience. Takes A LOT of preparation and memorization.

Zamman is spot on regarding McLeod. Like I said earlier, same old material/cliches from the 1970's. He's brutal to listen to.

The woman announcer is too slow.
And I don't give a dang about FRIENDS.
Parrish is okay.

I really, really wanted her to do well, it's a pretty cool opportunity she's been given. Unfortunately she seemed overwhelmed at the start of the game, almost like she completely mind blanked on any player names on either team. Like staring at the first question on a final and not remembering a single thing from all the studying you did for the test. Parrish seemed like he recognized it and was trying to help fill the silence, and I think his repeated remarks about nerves was in reference to both the players and her shaky start. Hopefully she settles down during this first intermission and get more into actually calling the game.

Parrish is terrible.

'more into actually calling the game.'
That would help.

Wouldn't it be something to have 70s Cliche, Stutter and Babble all at once on a broadcast?

Parrish has spent more time talking about his high school team than the game he's calling.

And he just said "shutout." I don't care the context of what he was saying, you don't say that word until the game is over.Wblhcky2424 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 12:38 pm Was just about to say the same thing

Parrish is great with his stories. There’s no game to call. It’s pretty much up to the announcers to keep people tuned in. We’re going to need a lot of stories to get through this one.

Thanks Pat Summerall
I think the shutout is safe in this one
