Post by mnpuckster » Sat Mar 09, 2019 10:12 pm

The tournament programs were sold out by Friday night session. Anyone know if they are for sale anywhere post tournament?

Oh wait, this is run by the High School League, isn't it? Never mind.

That explains why I couldn’t find any last night and when did they go to a smaller size like I saw last year? The tourney program used to be a staple when attending state hockey.

Program sells out most years as many long time fans collect them and with majority of the tickets held by season ticket holders I suspect the plan is that by Fri nearly everyone has had a shot at buying one and why pay to staff sales on a day (Saturday) where very few will buy one?

No need for extra staff to sell them on Saturday. The folks staffing the souvenir stands stands can sell them there.

If they are sold out before Friday evening, MSHSL is leaving money on the table. Given the marginal cost of a couple hundred extra, this is a no brainer.

Just a guess here, but Im thinking more people than usual bought one because it was 75th tournament, so its more of souvenir/collectors item than most years. They ran out of souvenir pucks on Thursday. Luckily, they got more in toward the end of the Greenway/Mahtomedi game on Friday.

I'm shocked that MSHSL doesn't have a good grasp of marketing.

Well, maybe not.

A few errors in some of the articles in The Journey.
In the 1967 write up they had Edina making its " first of 27 state tournament appearances ".
2012 write up had Benilde as the first school to win in two different classes. Seems to me Greenway and Eveleth already had done that.
