I can't speak to exact numbers as I was not involved in the 14's age group for D3 and evaluators would change session to session. What I was told is that the % of evaluators is commensurate with the amount of kids (4/5, 6/8, etc) who made it. It was an eye opener though and now the assoc we're involved in has decided to make an effort to actually send representatives to evaluations moving forward.
Are there no participants without ties to a specific association? Unfortunately those ties will inherently either lead to bias and/or an amount of familiarity that brings with it assumptions and therefore previous successes may lead to overlooking down performances over a single weekend. I don't know if you can ever completely impartial decision makers, but if the bias is legitimately this widespread one way to mitigate would be to have as many 'neutral' party observers as possible.
Doesn't appear to be the case in D3, it's almost all coaches or board members from teams participating in D3. I believe it's on a volunteer basis so if your association doesn't send anyone, don't expect to get a kid from your assoc on any of the HP or Tier 1 teams. Someone stated 12 of 15 kids for D3 HP 14's are from OMG (I'm too lazy to google each kid on list to verify). But when the evaluators are almost exclusively from OMG that is how it's going to play out. Perhaps some blame should go to the other assoc's for not participating more with the eval process.

Last Fall for the Tier 1 14's...17 of 21 from OMG and Wayzata. Granted those are by far the two strongest assoc in D3...they also left some really talented kids from rinky dink associations sitting at home in favor of their own bubble kids. I think they took a kid who ended up on Bantam B1 at Wayzata...and the Wayzata Bantam A team was subpar for comparison.
I'm also too lazy to look things up, but if I'm not mistaken OMG had top 5 teams at about every BT and PW level last season and Wayzata had success at a couple of levels as well (more so at BT), so there might be quite a few players worthy of selection at 14's from those two associations? And yes, someone from your association needs to be willing to get involved and represent your association at the district tryouts to make sure these "really talented" players don't somehow get lost in the shuffle.

2 of the 4 ASG goalies are MNHS goalies and I think there are 3 MN goalies going to 16's, so there is a stronger group of tendies passing through MN right now

Do we get to claim Houg as "one of us" even though he's only spent one season here?

I would venture to get that this coming season is probably his last in the bubble...?

Yeah, Koepple is from WI as well

Also, none of the MN born goalies at 16's will play MNHS next year either unless something changes

Hlinka Cup Team USA Roster

Includes:

F - Blake Biondi - Hermantown (Minnesota-Duluth)
D - Evan Bushy - Thief River Falls (St. Cloud State)
D - Wyatt Kaiser - Andover (Minnesota-Duluth)
D - Jacob Ratzlaff - Rosemount (Minnesota)
G - Louden Hogg - Edina

I'd be shocked if Evan Bushy isn't one of the ten finalists for the Mr. Hockey award next season, even if others may disagree (cough checco33 cough)

I will be shocked if Evan Bushy plays for TRF next year. His brother went USHL his senior year and I bet Evan takes the same route. He played for Sioux Falls post-season this spring and can see him make the jump. Hes ready from all I have seen and heard.

You could be right. He's coming off stellar state tourney and is rising even higher in these off-season tourneys/Natty Camps.
Word is that he loves the community, school, parents are not the pressuring kind, etc. So hopefully he stays in the bubble straight through but at this point I just hope he plays his junior year at EHS. The one variable in playing this junior season ('19-'20)
w/o Vorlicky, Reiners, possibly Boltmann (tbd) and without all-star D-man in front of him from Natty's - how will he do w/ a lesser cast? Could be interesting...but his nerves of steel are impressive - here's to hoping we see how it all plays out. Great kid. Good family. Lunatic Fringe, baby!

My name's Louden. Last week I turned 18. I wasn't ready for it. I haven't done anything yet. So I made this deal with myself. This is the year I make my mark.

No, I'm just the victim of a screwed-up nitrogen imbalance. Plus, I think I've contracted priapism.

So the story goes like this: I/we would cheer on Louden at some of the games. Good, clean, positive cheers from early last season all the way through! I would yell out (cuz I suffer from Peter Pan syndrome) 'LUNATIC FRINGE, baby' here and there...then about mid-December after a few weeks of these cheers - the 2nd night of the Edina Holiday classic, I yell out - 'stay on the LUNATIC FRINGE'! And Louden looks up at us and raises his stick! It was hilarious. He gets it. He knows. The truest sign his parents are raising him right. Fast forward to state tourney wknd at the X and the very first night we are in Edina section behind Louden. I meet a few people and directly behind us is a very nice couple rooting on their son. Couple minutes in its obvious they are rooting for Louden and have Grandma visiting from Wyoming in tow as well. After the first period, Mrs. Hogg leans and says, "Louden really likes the community, state of hockey and comments all the time about the good fans who are funny - he says there is one guy who yells out 'Lunatic Fringe' and it cracks him up CUZ THATS EXACTLY WHY/WHO I NAMED HIM AFTER LOUDEN SWAIN FROM 'VISION QUEST' MY ALL-TIME FAVE 80'S MOVIE"!

HA.
