only 1 joke a game......announcer said CEC scored ealier, but actually johnson hit the pipe. Rapids came down and scored. Good game. Kyle olson had cec 1st goal....morse scored rapids first goal at end of 1st period......bowman scores in 2nd to give cec the 2-1 lead......cahill or stejskal scored to tie game 2-2.......TJ (johnson) scores a pp to make game 3-2. Hicks scores to tie game 3-3 and then clafton gets game winner

Good one GR19. I've ruined my squeeky clean rep

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >wild77 at: 11/29/05 9:49 pm

Wild77,
Thanks for keeping GR19 fed with the updates from IRA. Hell of a night at the IRA. High school band was actually on site ripping up some music. You had two balls out teams going end to end every shift, flying around the rink, buzzing nets. Goalies making great saves this game had old school effort from the drop of the puck. Great effort from both clubs. Thanks to the addition of Elk River you have raised the stakes in 7AA. I fully expect teams to battle like it is playoffs this season in the sectional head to head matchups...why becuase in this conference this season you do not want to be the unfortunate soul who lands a 3, 4 or 5 seed. So expect nothing but great hockey games with playoff atmosphere in the building each time 7AA foes drop the proverbial puck. Radio report on the Rapids station had Rapids putting 51 shots on Ellingson. Wild77, when was the last time CEC has given up that many shots in a game? I am curious as they are not prone to facing all that many high number of shots ever from my recollection. My prediction puts me in with the overzealous teenagers from Cloquet as I predicted Cloquet to win by a larger margin and outshoot Rapids X2. Final analysis...great game, wished all the Minnhock puckheads could have been in attendance. Nice of Wild77 to get you as close to the action is possible out in cyberspace....great job Wild77.

JLS 81, was it close to a packed house? If not, I'd imagine any Rapids fans that were still skeptical will make it to the IRA for the Apple Valley game on Saturday. Hopefully Rapids can pull this off. If so they should start out 6-0. BTW, I am seriously thinking about making an extra trip in January to see Rapids play Jefferson and East at home and at Cloquet. Man I hope the fans will start getting to the games and get back to sell out crowds again.

GR19, not a packed house by any stretch. You could have had more people in the building....decent crowd for sure. But if the kids play at this level a few more games then the fans will come back. You must remember that last seasons club drove a lot of diehards out of the building with the selfish, putrid play. So it will take a while to get the fans back in large numbers.

JLS81, I'm sure Coach Esse isn't happy about 51 shots on net, but I think he knows he has to be patient with this club and probably about game 15 he will know what he has. Some of these kids have stepped right off the bantam A team from last year and are playing varsity hockey. Very big adjustemnt to play at a competitve AA level. Boleman F(scored goal), Hatch F, Godbout F, and Brown D(won't be availbale to varsity until game 13) are all 10th graders. That said, I think they have the kids that can step up. Getting Steve Mlodozyniec back will also help enormously with the forecheck. My bigger concern would be whether they have the speed at defense to stop the better lines in the state. They didn't seem to last night. Next up minnetonka, I believe. BTW, fun play by play last night. I had 2 hockey games on, one over the local radio (CEC vs rapids) and another going over the internet. Both were close so it was getting tough to listen to both. Hope GR19's heart didn't skip a beat when I made that mistaken call with .2 seconds left in regulation! I must have got my games mixed up !

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >wild77 at: 11/30/05 8:26 am

Wild77,
Thanks for the information on Cloquets team. Very nice goal by the way by the young third liner(Boleman). I thought third line contributing would seal it for CEC. But than Cahill nets one for the GR's third line so it evend up the "third liner" theory.
You are correct on the CEC defensemen, they were put back on their heels a bit last evening. I will check the ages on those kids becuase if they are young on the blueline than it stands to reason what transpired. Under Esse they will improve play as blueliners as the season progresses, if not it will be the only weakness in a team that should expect to do very well.

Wild77, going into OT, Rapids outshot CEC 35-29....that means in OT (with 4 minutes left to boot) Rapids added another 16 shots (51 total)? Does that seem in sync with what you heard/watched in OT? If so, that makes GR look very impressive.

I was kinda quiet about the things I had heard and wanted to keep my enthusiasm in check as much as possible until I could see some results. I was sure Rapids would be a top 4 team in this section and atleast be competitive. The bonuses to me are Trevor Hicks playing very well to the point it makes Patrick White so much more dangerous. Jared Smith (excellent puck skills) was moved to forward in the summer because I think the coaches felt they needed him up there to dish Patrick the puck. Now the 1st line is giving all you could ask for. So now Jared will go to line 2, giving Rapids what should be 2 VERY solid lines. The other thing is goaltending. When I see they are getting the goaltending they need to hang in there with a tough club like CEC, who may have the best goalie in the state, now I am really believing Grand Rapids may not only be a 1 or 2 seed in 7AA, they may well deserve a top 10 ranking in the state.

I think after these two teams play a couple more tough games and see what East and Elk River do in the next couple weeks we'll see where these teams really stand right now.

Well, he's definetly one of the top 5. But now, actually Reidar Jensen should start getting some consideration for being a top goalie.

What's so sad is Rapids had some nice teams in recent years but were killed by poor goaltending. Nice to have something formidable in that last line of defense for a change!

I'm giddy.

Giddy? Easy now, it's only 1 game and crow doesn't have to be served after the first game. It can simmer for a game OR it can simmer all season. It gets served up when you least expect it and really deserve it. Don't get too caught up in one win. All Gr Rapids did was hold serve on their home court, in a tiebreaker (sorry to use the tennis metaphor). We will see where each of our teams sit at the halfway point and go from there.

Yes, but who thought Rapids would outshoot them like that. And dangit I'm not going to settle down! I haven't had a chance to be this happy since we advanced to the section final in '02 for the first time in 8 years.

Will someone that was at the game describe the game winning goal to me? How did Rapids come into the zone and set this up?

I'll be getting tapes from the coaches to see the games myself.

Drive? Blah! Done it twice. It's 5.5 days one way from Anchorage to Grand Rapids. I'm going to fly down in January hopefully to see a few games before the playoffs.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... hs>GR19 at: 11/30/05 1:27 pm

Friendly reminder....GR19...take Wild77's advice and throttle back just a bit. You can wear on some people with your Grand Rapids this...and your Grand Rapids that...and before you know it you will have every one on this board hating Rapids or at least hoping they will "go south" so that things will quiet down. I hate to see the same fate transpire that occurred last season when the Fabulous Thunderbirds took a tail spin right after scrimmages...you were massacred over that. You heart is in the right place but man...you can tire some folks out....like Majin. Besides we already got one Zamman we do not need another.
Offer some more insight on Brainerd or East or Elk River to liven' the old board up. Too much of a good thing, well, is just too much.

Hey, I've started threads on other teams and no one seems to talk. Check out Brainerd vs. Forest Lake. Or 7AA rankings. I'm excited to listen to Duluth East's games on the internet radio feed Thursday and Saturday.

Also, it's difficult for me to give insight on the other teams, I don't have any insight on them. With Rapids I email one parent, one player, and the head coach, that's where I get my info on them.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... hs>GR19 at: 11/30/05 2:46 pm
