Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
Curiosity question.......why would someone choose a kid that plays for Hill Murray for an interview about playing for your community?
Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
8, you mean there isnt a Hill Murray township? Thought I drove through it the other day.

Lucius with 5, and not a single one from outside of 10 feet. 4 of 5 within 3 feet. Stands next to the net and shovels in rebounds (which is certainly a skill all its own). Expends very little energy; rarely gives a hit and rarely ever takes a hit. Pretty impressive as long as you can get away with it. Wonder how he does on bigger sheets, can't imagine he does well defensively. Team Northeast defense was beyond appalling, how about playing with your back to the net and putting a body on him, or simply lifting his stick?
Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
I think I said earlier, D was atrocious IMHO, how many times do you let a guy walk to the net or stand alone in front without any contact or acknowledgement? I just shake my head when people say some of these guys are the best D men in the state.. be hard to play against not just be able to jump up and score a goal, look at plus minus and who they play as well... sorry, but to many players are soft and just focus on offensive side.GoBigorGoHome wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 9:20 amLucius with 5, and not a single one from outside of 10 feet. 4 of 5 within 3 feet. 17 total goals. 5 goals 0 assists. Definitely not Gretzky-like. Now, if it was 5 goals and 12 assists, then maybe....Slap Shot wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 11:01 amSo the next Gretzky.GoBigorGoHome wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 9:20 amLucius with 5, and not a single one from outside of 10 feet. 4 of 5 within 3 feet. He moves the puck, so nobody should take the wrong impression from this number. Mainly he is a goal scorer. Plain and simple. He scores. A lot.GoBigorGoHome wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 11:07 am17 total goals. 5 goals 0 assists. Definitely not Gretzky-like. Now, if it was 5 goals and 12 assists, then maybe....
Zero assists on the season thus far.

Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
My only point is that his numbers and style of play are not at all Gretzky-like, as Slapper suggested. His numbers are very Chaz-like, and there is nothing wrong with that. 90% of life is showing up, and being in the right place at the right time.O-townClown wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 12:08 pmHe moves the puck, so nobody should take the wrong impression from this number. At the end of the day, he's a pure goal scorer. Obviously a smart player and in the right spot at the right time. Make no mistake though - he has a heavy shot as well - just so happened a lot came from in tight. I wasn't sold on him as a youngster - but he continues to dominate every level he plays and continues to be the "guy" on his squad. Team is loaded with incredible talent - but he continues to do what he does - score. It'll be fun to see how he develops for the next few levels and I see him as a Top 10 NHL 1st rounder.GoBigorGoHome wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 9:20 amLucius with 5, and not a single one from outside of 10 feet. 4 of 5 within 3 feet. Hats of to TDon for recruiting him so early. GB
Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
It'll be interesting to see if that is the route him and his brother take.

Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
From what I've seen, he has only played at one level so far, the 2003 level, and he has always had supremely gifted talent around him. It will be very interesting to see how he does against players older than him, especially older players who actually play defense.BP wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 1:23 pmAt the end of the day, he's a pure goal scorer. Hansen and Richels are big boys
Could have nudged him/them a little??

Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
I wasn't looking at the stat line so much (lack of assists) as the ability to gobble up pucks near the net as well as avoiding being hit/giving a hit.GoBigorGoHome wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 11:07 am17 total goals. 5 goals 0 assists. Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
He didn't have to avoid much contact... left alone and mostly untouched for majority of the game... left standing at times in the slot.. no idea why... except poor D zone play... and he can finish...

Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
I understand what you were going for, but Gretzky is a bad example. Don't know if you're old enough to have watched him play, but most of his goals were unbelievable solo efforts that caused your jaw to drop. Plus, Gretzky's method of avoiding hits was called Marty McSorley. Not a lot of stop and poke going on. Chaz is more Dino Ciccarelli like. Hopefully he keeps his pants on.Slap Shot wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 10:31 amI wasn't looking at the stat line so much (lack of assists) as the ability to gobble up pucks near the net as well as avoiding being hit/giving a hit.GoBigorGoHome wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 11:07 am17 total goals. 5 goals 0 assists. Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
Poor D aside, let’s give Chaz credit for finding open space in slot and then quick release when opportunity presents itself

Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
He will be an early early first round draft choice...That's a given
Aside from that, we must all admit hockey is really no longer a contact sport. I see more hitting in a non checking pee wee game then I do some USHL games. Imagine 5-10 years ago a team going down 3-1 or 4-1....Coach calls a timeout and the first thing he says is "start playing the body"
Today a coach takes a time out and his next move is to start double shifting his top line..
I'm not saying I agree or disagree with what's going on but the top end kids today have a free rein with little worry about keeping their head up.
The skill of checking is being phased out of almost all levels of hockey. Checking lines are a thing of the past. A physical D who in the past may have turned a game around with one big check is being replaced by blue line toe dragging specialist. Special teams are so important and now that refs are calling everything that resembles a physical play, teams have to stay out of the box to be successful
Back to the kid....The kid is special. And he will continue to get better and better.

My stomach turned when I read that... not disagreeing with anything you said, just ruining the game IMHO and making it shinny hockey...

Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend
What I've noticed is that a single viewing leaves people unimpressed. He isn't Bobby Orr, or Wayne Gretzky.
When you see him a few times and he does the same thing over and over it's like, Hey! This guy is doing something nobody else can figure out.
Otherworldly hockey sense. Strong shot and lightning release, combined with crazy accuracy. High ceiling.
Be kind. Rewind.

yeah,
sounds a lot like Gretzky to me.

Not to beat a dead horse but..Several times during the game I saw USA Dmen appropriately flatten Team Northeast kids who were attempting to camp in slot awaiting rebounds.
Also saw them raising Northeast sticks to disrupt things . All Legit, no whistles .
Wolfe was really the only one who attempted physical play on Northeast , and unfortunately he took a couple penalties then had to back off

I would be careful picking apart a 16 year olds game. He is potentially a 1st round draft choice, I say that cautiously as a lot can change with kids!
