congrats to mike. couldn't happen to a nicer kid. will be interesting to see how he develops as he was clearly the pioneers best forward and top point getter last year. fun to watch and full of potential. possibly his best attribute is his work ethic.

Congrats to Mike and I'm glad hes going to play for the Gophs...fav team by far. Also congrats to Nick Pryor who has verbally committed to the University of Wisconsin, from what i hear hes the real deal, but I'm excited and anxious to see for myself in the upcoming games. If he's as good as everyone says then its a damn shame hes going to the Badgers

i'm going to commit my mite to the gophs for the 2016 freshman class. seriously, isn't it a little soon for a kid that hasn't played one game of varsity hockey?

Committing early

Post by One Smooth Operator » Tue Nov 29, 2005 4:25 pm

If the Don visits your son in his junior year (when he legally can for the first time) what would you say? "No sonny, you'll have to wait for a better offer?". The guys wants to pay your kids tuition, room and board and have your kid play for the Gophers?

Do the Gophs in a minute, that's what most of us would do!

committing early

Post by Ibleedgreen » Tue Nov 29, 2005 4:39 pm

agree.........if the offer is there you take it. just not sure how it is that some get the offer in their senior year and are told that they will need a year of juniors after high school. then you have a kid that is a freshman that has not seen one minute of varsity ice yet he is already committed to a d1 program after his senior year. how is it that they know he is d1 material yet he was not such a phenom as an 8th grader that he played jv hockey the entire season?

Pryor may have committed to Wis. But I doubt Wis has committed to Pryor.
The kid is not that good. Probably one of the most overrated players at the 90 level.

This sounds like a Sports Illustrated April fools joke ( A bit early ).

pryor

Post by Hill Alum » Tue Nov 29, 2005 6:13 pm

I am going to have to disagree with you on that one. He is a very talented player who has the {potential} to be a great player. It will be interesting to see how he does on thursday night. If te rumor is true, that he verbally commited to the badgers, I feel that was too soon. Like IBLEEDGREEN put it, he has not even touch the ice in a varsity game. It is a totally different atmosphere than summer hockey-even if it is the elite league. He is a good player though, nonetheless...

We'll just have to wait and see, since Wisconsin can't contact him until junior year anyway, right?

Pryor committs (?) to the Badgers

Post by One Smooth Operator » Thu Dec 01, 2005 9:44 am

<a href="http://members.aol.com/cheisenber/Recru ...

This is a reliable site (scroll down to U of W). Pryor has already committed to the Badgers. My understanding is that the school cannot contact the student athlete until the fall of his junior year but that doesn't preclude the student from contacting the school.

exactly, its not an April fools joke it was in the Pioneer Press on tuesday in Charley Walters section along with Mike Hoeffels verbal committment to the U of M. Granted i agree with you guys about the school not being able to talk to a student til his junior year, you can still verbally commit to a school at any time.

Pryor

Starting tonight, Nick Pryor will have a chance to prove why he is on the University of Wisconsin recruit list. Obviously, it is very unusual for any player who has not played a single varsity game to be on this type of list. What PAMESH was getting at is while thought of as a solid player by his peers in the 90 age group...he simply is not thought of as a dominant player...like 9th graders Jordan Schoeder, Ben Hanowski, Danny Kristo, Danny Mattson, Aaron Ness, Nick Jensen, Joe Howe.. and a too long to list group of dominant 10th graders...so the offer by WI and his committment to WI does come as a surprise to those on us who have followed this age group. That said, best of luck to Nick this season. Bottom line, he has the offer in his pocket...or he wouldn't be listed as a Wisconsin recruit for 2009.

This has more to do with Mr. Pryor (Chris) as it does his son. Chris, a former HM player/pro player is a NHL scout who handles the midwest area. He has done a lot of work getting his son's name out there and established contact with UW. The agreement is just verbal. Both sides have the opportunity to change their course at anytime. Unfortunately for Nick, he will be overly scrutinaized because of the announcement. He should just be allowed to be a high school freshman hockey player rather than a Badger Recruit.

way too much discussion about a kid that hasn't proven anything yet. he has nice skills and good hockey smarts for a kid his age but the biggest plus he has going for him is his dad's connections.

watched pryor in paticular last night and saw exactly what i expected to see which is a young kid who is very weak and slow in comparison to his new level of competition. i was not impressed even slightly and i could not help but think while watching that his dad should have kept his ego out of the situation and thought before he opened the door to all the hype and unecessary scrutiny. he has been successful in trying to create attention for his son but he has done the kid a diservice by not allowing him to continue to develop without the added pressure. again, the ego can get in the way and be a bad thing for dad and son too.

finally, i find it funny that all the scouts, coaches and hockey experts say the game is for the kids, parents - stay out of it, if the kid is good enough the scouts will find them. why does this not apply to the scouts, coaches, and hockey experts when their own kids are involved?

Pryor

Post by Hill Alum » Fri Dec 02, 2005 4:39 pm

Well I was also at the game...I thought that Pryor played well. I would not say that he stood out on the D spot last night, but he played well. He made some plays, joined the offensive rush a few times, and was smart with the puck in his own zone. I thought he played well. He has a lot to work on, yes, but he didn't play bad by any means. He played the body decently. Hoeffel was a joy to watch. He controlled the play of the game, every time he was on the ice. The line of Larson, Hoeffel, and Skarda was dominant last night. Anyways, back to the point, it will be a good test on tuesday night, for the young Pryor. White Bear will hit more than the Trojans did. Plus the atmosphere at Aldrich is totally different when Hill plays the Bears. Can't wait to watch them...
