Hockey Day weather forecast

Post by Stang5280 » Wed Jan 15, 2020 5:35 pm

Looking brutal for the second year in a row, with potential blizzard conditions. Does it seem they will be more likely to pull the plug and move indoors after last year’s experience in Bemidji? One wonders whether Warroad will even be able to make the drive to Minneapolis.

Seems like Friday events might be in more jeopardy during the heavy snow during day and evening

Snow supposed to end overnite , 26 degrees sat morning but falling throughout the day on Saturday

Warroad might be best off leaving Thursday ?

Except they play TRF Thursday night. Perhaps it could be rescheduled, but obviously it is an important section game.

If they didn't move it inside when it was 30 below, hard to imagine them doing it this year.

Not hard at all, previous stupidity should have taught people a lesson...especially since those kids got frostbite

Yes: I was surprised it didnt get moved.
Why didnt they move it inside last year? Logistics? I mean I know Fox Sports North puts a lot of work into the set up and everything and Im sure they have a lot of say in the matter, but 25 to 30 below is pretty ridiculous. I wouldnt have even wanted to go watch.

This tired gimmick long ago ran it's course. It doesn't seem like it gets nearly the same buzz it used to get.

Apparently I agree with Curt Giles. It's foolish for any top ten team to risk a player's safety & a playoff run, considering both brutal cold & crappy ice.

We cancel school at the drop of a hat. But yeah, let's get them out on the ice when it's -20.

I believe that they will have Parade open all weekend - so if the weather is bad and unplayable outside - they are going to move the games inside. Hopefully they can do it for the events Friday night.

I think Hockey Day is great. The kids seem to love it and that’s what matters. Not what some coach thinks. Schedule parallel ice times on an indoor sheet if the weather is ridiculous.
Also great for the community.

I can’t say for Minneapolis but so far the 3 inches of snow we have screams weather terrorists.

it seems crazy the MSHSL preaches safety yet allows what happened last year to happen. We have strict guidelines regarding heat but none involving cold?

Of course anyone who played at Indus would have little sympathy....

Getting back to olde tymes.

In $700 skates. With $300 fiberglass sticks. And more padding on your elbow than Willard Ikola had on his entire body when he was the goalie at Eveleth. After paying thousands for skating lessons, out of town travel, stick handling school and who knows what else.

Whatever.

No, it isn't the 70's. But it's not the 40's either. By the 70's out door HS gamess had gone the way of the Edsel.

Life's such a drag when you live in the past. I'm not into this faux-stalgia; I'll just leave it to the kids.

Hey, the HDM games should have 12 minute periods, if we're we're doing the throw back thing. Leather helmets too.
