Toughest Conference

Post by HockeyMan05 » Thu Dec 01, 2005 2:04 pm

It is hard to determine/analyze which conference is the "toughest". I have seen some people post that the Classic Suburban Conference is tougher than the Lake this year? I was woundering which conference people think is the deepest/toughest in the state.

I personally think that the Lake is the top conference in the state, but that is just my opinion.

if you match up the lake conferences top five teams against any other conferences top five.....lake will come out on top every single time.

The classic suburban conference is North St. Paul, STA, Simley, Hill-Murray, Richfield, Tartan, Mahtomedi, etc.

The Classic Lake Conference is a different conference entirely. The classic lake is like wayzata, edina, robbinsdale armstrong, hopkins and minnetonka. Neither of them are that bad, but they're no Lake Conference

Easily the Lake. who said Classic Subarban? Kick them off the board. The Lake is the best, their schools are so big a lot of people to draw from.

"Lake, big Lake" - Long Duck Dong, 16 candles.

By far the best, top to bottom. Put the worst team in the Lake against the worst team in any other conference and it will not even be a contest. Best against best would be a great game, but as you go down in the Lake standings, the teams are still very good. No other conference is even close from top to bottom... not even CLOSE!

Lake

The Lake is by far the deepest. This year it could be the best and the deepest.

NW Suburban won't be too bad this year top to bottom. Throw out Andover though. Cent,ER, Maple Grove at the top. Blaine is coming back to life.

Suburban East has one team (WBL) the rest are very average, but has some dogs at the bottom.

The Lake is the most over rated conference in the State, probably because the Strib writes them up so much to sell papers in the West Metro.

No other conference has teams in 3 AA sections, making up half of 2 sections. Lake conference teams record at the State tournament since 2000 is 0-2 in 2000, 2-4 in 2001, 1-4 in 2002, 1-4 in 2003, 1-2 in 2004, 1-2 in 2005. A total of 6 and 18, with their best showing being a 4th place in 2002. 3 of those 6 wins come at the expense of each other or a Big Nine team. Worse, the Big Nine's only win and competitive games in that span have come against Lake teams. (Jefferson and Eastview)

Their non conference record against AA teams last year was 21-19-1, not overwhelming by any means. While there were some tough opponenets in there, they also beat up on some bad teams like Minnetonka (7 losses to Lake teams).

Is there a better conference, probably not, but the Lake is not head and shoulders above everyone else.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... oldy313 at: 12/1/05 11:06 pm

lake conference might have been good back in the days but lets be honest......they are not even close anymore the best lake conference team would probably not even beat anyone in the top 5 of NW

I have to disagree. Most conferences have one or two real good teams, but as far as rivalry and quality games. I think that lake is on top.
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

The reason why Lake is the toughest is because the conference has so much depth. Probably the most out of any conference.

Marriucci Conference..........
or whats left of it. Year after year, the marriucci produces at least one championship contender, last year it had both the class a and the class aa, favorite, (Warroad and Moorhead). In recent years this conference has been top heavy, and in most years there is a clear favorite, but in any game any of teams coudl knock anyone else off and no one would bat an eye, this is what makes it so great. What this conference is is the best of hockey in NW minnesota. from the small towns at the canadien border to Moorhead, it has diversity. Most teams in this conference win with hockey talent, not finesse, or athletisism. Toughness is what makes the northern teams so good and playing in the conference is what makes the other teams so tough. This means, physically tough on the rink, mentally tough....... What makes this conference so special is that the eight teams that make it up, (maybe seven now) were all actually in the old region 8.
