You go to that alignment and it just about becomes an all metro state tournament being there is rarely a participant from the southern part of the state. There needs to be two schools potentially representing the north down at the Excel!
Hockey is already metro centric as is all the sports, that is where the population resides.

Out state is getting older by the year and school enrollments dwindle each passing year. makes zero sense to have 2 northern team in one section. Where are your big hockey numbers coming from with no industry and no jobs?

Times and demographics stand to reason one northern section. Oh and what politicians are ramming down your throat in northern counties wont improve matters in the future.

Rochester hockey numbers used to drive section 1 success. Those days are over. Research the demographics of Rochester there you will find your answer.

Out!
Agree to disagree. There's just too many good hockey programs up north still. By cramming them all to one section it'll be Moorhead or Duluth east at state most years. Instead of both. And not sure how much sense it makes to have two teams in the same section on opposite sides of the state.

We've been hearing the fear mongering for years that northern hockey is dying... sure some small schools are struggling but it's a far cry from having to reorganize the 218 into one section...
Oh it's dying for sure. Here are the AA teams from the north.

Roseau
Moorhead
Bemidji
Brainerd
East
Rapids

Potentially out in 2021:
CEC
DM

Be helluva section <IF> these 8 teams were in the "all north section"! Home and home with these 7 would be quite a schedule and sections would be epic battle right from quarters!! GET ER DONE!!
Roseau
Moorhead
Bemidji
Brainerd
East
Rapids
CEC
**unnamed team**

I don’t get the bandwagon with everyone saying cloquet needs or should go to single A , they are not getting killed every season like ST Francis was . Maybe Elk River wants to drop down to single A with that logic , they have not made it to the state tournament sense 2001.

Your logic is flawed from a statistical standpoint.... Just take a quick look at section 6. Many good teams that won't make it to tourney. Riddle me this, there aren't really enough teams in 218 to make up a section, so how do you rationalize that they should have potentially 2 state tournament berths? For easy math, lets say 64 teams in AA, 8 a section, 8 teams in 218..... hmmmmm looks to me like 1/8 is representative of 218 doesn't it? Nope, 218 is entitled to potentially 2 spots because we are 218....
Jeez butt hurt your team isn't going to make the X this year? Or never has?

Yeah I would agree. Better to have 2 mostly northern sections instead of 1 all north section. The northern boys have been doing a fine job lately of representing the 218 at the X.
But...7AA and 8AA are NOT mostly Northern. Both are 50/50 as they stand.
Yeah, true. But how often does a southern team represent either section? Not often. The strength is the northern teams aside from a couple, northern suburban teams, otherwise they're mostly section bottom feeders.

My bad coach , but this is still not answering my question why would cloquet move down. Let’s say Andover stumbles to Grand Rapids assuming Rapids beats Elk River , cloquet would be the most recent team to state behind Grand Rapids and Duluth East not counting anoka or when Duluth Marshall was single A. Cloquet is not getting beat down , I just don’t understand the purpose besides trying to trophy hunt in the little tourney.

I can't answer that question... I don't get it either. While they are Class A in size, thus eligible they don't put a class A product on the ice. I guess maybe those that want to see them move down want to chase the trophy like a school close by?

Pretty sure the talk of CEC opting to go A has been suggested and pushed by kniven, who is a CEC supporter. If others are saying it, it's because it has been suggested by that poster, and supposedly supported by people in CEC

For more information on this topic please look back to see the same thread that has taken place every year for the last 20 years. What has changed in the last 20 years? Nothing. What is going to change in the next 20 years? Nothing. The State High School League couldn’t be more clear about that. There’s nothing to see here. Please move along.

This is like a Kniven post, and a first one too. Although I hope it's true, how do you know for sure?

There are too many old school guys in Cloquet that would never allow this to happen. Right or wrong, I agree with them. Play the best competition.
A Kniven like post? Kniven is an Esko guy and I'm guessing that's where some/most of his info is coming from. That might have been my first post but even I know Langenbrunner didn't move to the cities to be closer to the airport for work. [-X

I like this proposal if the MSHSL goes back to having seven sections and our runner up gets in the big tourney via the back door.

I think Andover wins Thursday but I have doubted Elk River before, I also think both teams make it back to the final again next year also.
