Your ignorance is showing again. Greenway pulls a couple of kids from JV each year. Most of the JV kids never make varsity. Most of the players come from bantams. Any kids with some talent are immediately pulled to varsity. Their bantam team last year was competitive, in fact beat Rapids AA team in overtime. Their Bantam team should be competitive again this year. Their PeeWees were terrible but their Squirts were very talented especially with the young Rajala returning that group will be even better. So the demise of Greenway hockey has been greatly exaggerated. They have two teams at each level. They will hit some rough times like this year but will bounce back. Most Greenway fans would rather be 0-25 then be swelled up by Rapids. Please don’t pursue this topic anymore, you’ll only embarrass yourself further.

Is it the kids or the fans that are so against pairing? I ask because there were two schools near me that paired for sports a few years back, and the "fans" from the two schools were so against it. But you ask any athlete from those first few years and they almost all say it was the best thing they did. Now, there are now issues.

Granted, there wasn't a hockey program involved, but just some food for thought.

I stand corrected then. I’m a fan of Greenway puck. I just hope they can it going up there. I’m sure they will make it to state again before my Lumberjacks. But fortunately, that’s not why I’m a huge fan of my purple 🤓

It’s both. Greenway combines with Nashwauk-Keewatin in football, cross-country, track, golf and wrestling. They already combine with NashwauK-Keewatin and Deer River for hockey. Both contributed good hockey players to their bantam team. Future combinations with N-K in other sports will most likely occur in the future. Greenway combines with Rapids in LaCrosse and girl’s tennis and girl’s hockey. The hockey team has three Greenway girls including the best player on the team Clair Vekich. But you’re right none are boy’s hockey.

I may have overreacted kniven so accept my apology for my less than kind remarks. I think you might now have further understanding of hockey at Greenway.

Clafton has submitted his recognition for Greenway. Expect Andy Sertich to be the favorite to get the job if he wants it.

Guessing Clafton will be on the Rapids bench this winter as an assistant to Coach Chiodo or possibly associate head coach. I’ve heard the two are good friends.

A changing of the guard. That’s too bad. Rebuild it is. I am familiar with this term well. In the meantime, do the best you can with what you got. In 2020 when programs can’t count on transfers, it usually a long road. I hope Greenway doesn’t have to juggle multiple head coaches. That can be very difficult. I wonder if Greenway will come to Cloquet for scrimmages a third year in a row this fall.

This was the scrimmage before the magical run by Greenway to a 2nd place finish in the state November, 2018 👍. That was so much fun watching and filming this. So much talent on both sides of the ice.

I think a previous post on here stated that Clafton resigned a couple weeks ago. Is this another change?

As I stated in an earlier post, Clafton could end up on the Rapids staff. Personally, I hope that doesn’t happen. I’ve had some conversations with a player or two when he was an assistant at Rapids for one season. Sounds like a very tough guy to play for...lots of negativity and derogatory statements Also, a friend of mine who reffed some Greenway games during Clafton’s tenure said he was easily the most difficult coach to deal with in the northland. Rapids has the opportunity of being a very special team this coming season. It would be very disappointing to have someone come in and disrupt this groups promise and affect their positive attitudes built on last seasons success.

Talked to someone that knows Grant well and, as of this point, he won't be joining Rapids' staff. He and his wife just had their first child and he wants to spend more time with his newborn. He will however be coaching the Elite League team again. Possibility of someone new joining him on the bench for Elite League.

Unless the GR kids are moved off of team north, GR head coach cannot coach his players during the fall offseason per MSHSL Regs.

This is correct which is why Grant has approached another well respected coach to help him.

What’s the status of the search for a new coach for Hibbing?

It has nothing to do with Grant. He is talking about Chiodo.

Irish, definitely some miscommunication here. Some suggested Grant might join Chido as his assistant at GR. I stated it's my understanding that he's choosing to step away from full-time coaching -- at least in the short term -- to spend time with his wife and newborn but, would still be coaching the North Elite League team. And, that Chido wasn't helping him this fall, knowing Chido couldn't coach his own kids. Thus, since Chido couldn't help Grant, Grant had reached out to another well respected northern Minnesota hockey man to help him out. Not sure if he has said yes yet but, I can probably find out tomorrow.

Wonder if it could be a AA couch nearby a large body of water. He’s close to retirement.

If the AA coach near the large body of water is nearing retirement, is Clafton a viable option?
