Man, it depends so much on my mood or the mood I'm trying to create or relive. The two Empire mentioned are both very good songs, and I relate to some that elliott mentioned also.

I've been spending the past five years building a collection of mp3's, and every time I think I have everything I want or need, I'll hear some obscure song and go "damn, how could I have forgot that one?!".

My tastes run about 20% country and 80% pop or rock. Most of my favorites tend to come from the mid 70's, when I was in high school. I used to scratch my head at people in their 30's who were still listening to music from their youth. Now I understand why <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

If I had to pin myself down, these stick out:

Tunnel of Love--Springsteen
Golden Ball and Chain--Jason & the Scorchers
Never My Love--Association (our wedding reception song)
(Don't Go Back To) Rockville--R.E.M.
Learn To Fly--Foo Fighters
Jesus Or A Gun--Fuel
My Lady And Me--Little River Band
It's For You--Pat Metheny
I Dreamed Last Night--Moody Blues
Fakin' It--Simon & Garfunkel

Ask me in a month, you might get a few different ones in there. As I said, it's a mood (and to an extent, a time-of-year) thing for me.

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

This defines the country song as 'POP". But anything sung by Patsy Cline er Johnny Cash er Waylon er Willie works for me in the right location. But I like that Monday Night Football song by JR....

RaP - I gotta be honest with ya I wouldn't have a clue as to which rap is better than other rap. I have a hard enough time trying to come up with a list of top albums/CDs, let alone songs.

For country, it begins and ends with Hank Williams Sr. There are a lot of other great country artists, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Jimmie Rodgers, but noone did it like Hank. I do not like most of the music considered country these days, it sounds like watered down soft rock to me. Give Jason and the Scorchers or the Beat Farmers a listen and you'll never want to hear country radio again. I do really like the so called alt-country bands like the Jayhawks, Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, etc.

Anyhoo, enough sermonizing, here's a bunch of songs that I love:

The Kinks-Waterloo Sunset
The Clash-Train in Vain
Neil Young-Down by the River
Bob Dylan-If You See Her Say Hello (Bootleg Series version)
Beach Boys-Wouldn't It Be Nice
Public Enemy-Fight the Power
NWA-Straight Outta Compton
The Replacements-Here Comes a Regular
Elvis Costello-Beyond Belief
Fountains of Wayne-Radiation Vibe
The Who-Won't Get Fooled Again
The Faces-Oo La La
Howlin' Wolf-Spoonful
The Cars-It's All I Can Do
Prince-Uptown
The Stooges-I Wanna Be Your Dog
Sex Pistols-Holiday in the Sun
Rod Stewart-You Wear It Well
Four Tops-Reach Out I'll Be There
ABBA-Knowing Me, Knowing You
Richard & Linda Thompson-Shoot Out the Lights
Nirvana-Drain You
Wilco-Casino Queen
Atmosphere-Trying to Find a Balance
Beat Farmers-Riverside
Jason & the Scorchers-White Lies
Toots & the Maytals-Funky Kingston
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers-Last Dance for Mary Jane
Soul Asylum-Closer to the Stars
Lifter Puller-Rock for Lite Bright

Kenny is pretty popular when it comes to country. Don't forget about Keith Urban though <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)">
