NLF Draft

Post by BabyBlueFan4Life »

Who would you guys like to see the Vikes draft? I personally would like to see either Mike Williams or Troy Williamson at 7 and then go with either Erasmus James or David Pollack at 18. Hopefully we snag Nugent later so we don't have to rely on another 40 something kicker. Thoughts?

NFL Draft

I want Mike Williams at 7 and Demarcus Ware at 18. However, I don't think he will be there at 18, so I would like Erasmus James there. And yes, we need the Nuge at 49. Then get S Ernest Shazor third round, if he continues to fall (as he is now) LB Channing Crowder in the fourth, and P Dustin Colquit in the 5th. Then BPA in the 6th and 7th. That would be the perfect draft.

Troy Williamson and Erasmus James are the ones to go first round.

Marcus Johnson, a G from Ole Miss is our 2nd round pick and Dustin Fox, a S from Ohio St. was our 3rd round pick. Overall, not the greatest picks (no Nuge is not good), but people don't realize that Johnson is the top guard in the draft and he will step in immediately at Dixon's place, joining Troy and Erasmus as starting rookies.

Anyone that watched the draft, what do you think were the most surprising picks. I got 4 fairly obvious ones. Mike Williams at 10 to Detroit, which has drafted basically the same guy three years in a row (Charles Rogers 2 years ago, Roy Williams last year). Jacksonville taking Matt Jones at 21 even though he he extremely raw at WR. Third is Aaron Rodgers falling all the way to Green Bay at #24, a guy who a week and a half ago was supposed to be the #1 pick. But the most shocking pick was the Denver Broncos taking Maurice Clarett with the last pick of round three. What a dream scenario for Clarett. Some team decides to take him 3rd round when he should be taken in the sixth, and that one team has the best running system in the NFL, and their leading rusher from last year is gone (Droughns). A possible sleeper for 1,000 yards? Probably not, but still, you never know...

I can't believe the Broncos took Clarett. I don't see him being in the league more than a couple of years. But you're right, he does go to a great system and possibly could be somewhat productive. Tatum Bell is the starter out there though, and I see him being the next stud out of that backfield.

I forgot about Tatem. Yeah I think he will be the next 1500+ Bronco back.

I hate the Jets.

On paper, the draft looks like a very good one for our Purple.

On paper, the free agent signings look great.

It looks like the Viking's ship is in good shape. But does it have a rudder? Only one thing missing and its not a kicker. Its a quality head coach.

How did Ernest Shazor and Brandon Browner not get picked? They were both supposed to be late 2nd round picks! And why didn't we try to sign them instead of Justin Fraley and Ukee Dozier as UFA's. I like the Johnathan Nichols signing though. He should have been the 2nd kicker taken.

In case anyone was curious, there is some draft guy (I think his name is Wexler) that puts out a draft guide before the draft each year, and he has some grading scale that one of the things that a player could be is E9+. Only a couple players (2-4) are E9+ players, and those players are somehow 83% more likely to make the HOF. I know of two of these players. One is Ronnie Brown, and the other is Troy Williamson. There could be a couple others, but I think Troy was the only WR that was an E9+. And I heard this before the draft, too, so don't think the guy was showing any favoritsm.

Kicker

Post by Triple Deke »

Sounds like Doug (O'my god I shanked another) O'Brien from the J-E-T-S may be our kicker next year. I was really hoping for the Nuge, but the kicker out of Mississippi should be great (free agent undrafted signing) if we can't land O'Brien

We should have picked Browner and Shazor in our 6ht and 7th round slots, maybe there are some serious character issues there??

I have read/heard that we will be getting Paul Edinger from the Bears after they release him. I would be alright with that because he has been pretty dependable in the Windy City and I think he would do quite well in the Dome. I also think that we should give Rhys Lloyd a tryout or put him on the practice squad/IR or something. Just give the kid a chance and see what he can do because he has one helluva leg.

As far as Shazor & Browner go, I'd seen us taking each of them in the 2nd or 3rd round in some of the mock drafts that I looked at. How did we not sign them/draft them late? Both would have been great young guys to develop and play special teams. Overall, I am satisfied with the draft. Would have rather had Mike Williams, but I think this will turn out much like the Kevin Williams over Jimmy Kennedy that the Vikes pulled off a few years ago and everyone jumped on them for it. The biggest thing that I saw is that I believe we trumped everyone in our division with our draft. Everyone else didn't seem to address the needs that they had or had some very questionable picks. Can't wait for the season to start and Madden to come out. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)">
Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

I believe he was first team all Big 12. But in the 7th round we definitely should have taken one of those two over Adrian Ward.

Bottom line on this whole draft situation is that we'll have to wait and see. Right now it looks like the Vikes addressed a lot of their needs but you just never know. I hate when all the experts give grades cause in 2-3 years a team that originally scored a C might be an A+, it's just talk and speculation. I love what the Vikes have done in the off-season as a whole, and should be fun to watch. My prediction 12-4, go Vikes!

Man, I like the U of Oklahoma a lot more now after their spoofs of Maurice Clarett's 40 time. If you need a laugh, check this out:

www.soonerfans.com/forums/showthread.ph ...
