Edina squirt A's win n. america's top tournament

Post by Cap19tain »

The Hornets are champions out of the 48 teams at the Fargo tournament. Third time since 98 for Edina. Who knows anything about the other teams (1997-98 and 2001-02)? thanks.

Congrats,

Minnesota teams should win that tournament more often. We are 1/2 a year older than all the other teams. When we play on a level field, then it would mean something more- OR - if the only teams in that tournament aren't all star teams that travel across the country every week.

<a href="http://www.fargoflyershockey.com/pg0703 ...

there are the results above.

as for being 1/2 year older. that is generally true. teams outside of Minnesota in the tournament are exclusively 1995s, unless they want to have a 96. Forty percent of Edina's team are 95s and 96s.

edina beat four Minnesota teams among its 6 victories: Warroad, Jefferson, Omaha, Lakeville South, Minnetonka and the host Flyers.

The two Edina Teams (1997-9 and (2001-02) both beat teams from other states that were 1/2 year OLDER. The 97-98 team was loaded with talent, very few of those players (Thang, Finley< Hagemo, Milo) played their high school hockey at Edina

Are you sure that this is North Americas "top" tournament?

The Fargo tournament does get a good draw, with losts of teams from Minnesota, but it's not one of North America's top tournaments, seeing it does include very many other teams from outside the Minnkota District and Canada.

Maybe you say, one of Minnesota & Dakotas top tournaments

theirs teams from california,colorado,navada,kanses,arizona,alaska.. as for the 1/2 year older thats crap because the teams from the other states are almost all triple A teams loaded with 94 mostly...Edinas streangth was defence who were all big probley 94's and one big kid on offense that was very effective. theirs alot of talk about the nanny kid and hes good for being a 96 other than that he didnt stand out at all.

at least in-season, there's no Squirt tournament to compare. This Edina team is deep, not relying on a standout such as Hagemo or Everson, and owns the third period over their rivals time in and time out. In the Fargo semifinal, they gave up one shot in the third period -- not one shot on goal -- just one shot.

Overall, it looks like Edina is well stocked for the future, meaning this chat site will have to put up with more Hornet talk for a long time.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... p19tain at: 2/28/06 2:14 pm

That is a very good tournament, and a good predictor of the future. Eden Prairie won it 2 years ago. Those kids are now peewees and all you need to do is look at the polls. Look for Edina to be a power house in 2 years at the peewee level.

Keep in mind and in perspective that these are 10 and 11 year old kids. Development yaddy yaddy...........
I have seen the Edina team play and one thing they DO NOT have is size going for them. Once checking starts it is a whole new game. Will be interesting in two years.

I coached a team in that area one year when littleton, CO came to town for the squirt tournament. They had Patrick Roys kid in net, Joe Sakic's kid out front and a few other players kids off the Av's team. They walked right thru the tournament and us (12-0), only to find out they weren't registered as an offical team. The kids were too old. No wonder they looked so good.
