Why is everybody writing off DE? They are the champs until somebody beats them!

East and Cloquet lost valuable pieces and Grand Rapids talented enough to take advantage. Will they? It just makes things more interesting. Duluth East and CEC still have very nice teams though and the Hounds have a head coach named Mike Randolph. Come section playoffs, I have no doubt Andy will have plenty of headaches in front of them to get through for a state tournament birth.Usthockey13 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 11:37 am I think most are because of what they lost to graduation and the early departures of Anderson and Jeannette. But I am guessing Randolph will throw a bunch of lines together till the new year and figure out what type of team he has akin to the 2015 team. I would say at this point a pre season rankings for the section would be with 2-4 being somewhat interchangeable
Andover
DE
CEC
Rapids
Elk
Flake
Anoka
Marshall

In the last 10 seasons, Duluth East has a 29-1 record in the Section 7AA tournament, with 9 state appearances.
Going to state 6 times in a row, narrowly losing to Rapids in 2016, the eventual State Champion.
I don't care if they go 5 and 20 during the regular season, It will take a supreme effort and some hockey god will to beat East at Amsoil.
It is just the way things are. Kind of like the Twins beating the Yankees in NY during the play-offs.

Anyway if it’s not East, and Rapids can make it to the final that would be probably the only way it would happen.
I have the feeling Andover would choke again in OT
Why Andover take Rapids off their schedule? Makes no sense. Rankings already convoluted as is.kniven wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 6:22 pmmuckandgrinder65 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 6:00 pm Forgot about that last second goal -my bad

Yea, CEC would have a very slim chance of beating Andover. East and Rapids would have a much better shot
Exactly! If Mike has goal scorers, he'll play run and gun. If he doesn't he'll play the trap. He'll say one thing out of the right side of his mouth, and something completely different out of the left. He's a great coach who will figure out what it will take to win section 7AA. Doesn't matter what their record is on Feb 1st, they will be at the X when it counts.muckandgrinder65 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 4:45 pm Holy Hound-dog......!!

Wayzata won AA State in 2016, GR in 2017 (after rising from the dead during the 3rd period vs ER at Amsoil). No one is denying Mike R. being an excellent coach, he clearly is. That said, the facts are DE hasn’t won AA State in going on 22 years & they play at home during the semifinals & Finals of EVERY Section tourney, something they share with only one other team (HM at Aldrich). DE is not the Yankees of HS hockey, the only team who might be accurately termed the Yankees are the hated Hornetsmuckandgrinder65 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 4:45 pm Holy Hound-dog......!!

I appreciate Elk, trust me. I’ve got a very good hockey dad/bud that lives in Elk and is a diehard. It’s just interesting that they haven’t kept their top end talent the last few years. Which is ver oddmuckandgrinder65 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 7:43 pm Come on K....
Why go after Elk River?
At least none of them are going to EP like your boys
If you have such a good bud in ER, maybe ask him why instead of trolling on here..... No where close to Hibbing, just sayin.kniven wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 9:17 pmI appreciate Elk, trust me. @muckandgrinder65 Can fill an old guy in on the Elks club? I don't keep up on the "interweb" moving of players and did not know the Elks were losing kids early. First I ever heard about it was from the recent rantings posted in the 7AA thread. Might be nothing factual to it?muckandgrinder65 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 7:43 pm Come on K....

I know it is single a, but St. Cloud Cathedral also plays at home during the semifinals and Finals EVERY section tournament. Supposedly it is a "central location" (it's not) and it is the only "acceptable venue" (It's not). I will say it's more fun to break some hearts on a team's home ice though.hockey59 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 10:04 amWayzata won AA State in 2016, GR in 2017 (after rising from the dead during the 3rd period vs ER at Amsoil). You are correct about SCC & Hermantown too. I simply didn’t count them in this context I was referring only to AA Sections.zooomx wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 3:12 pmI know it is single a, but St. Cloud Cathedral also plays at home during the semifinals and Finals EVERY section tournament. Of course they haven’t. Cities teams get to play at home. Home team always wins.hockey59 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 10:04 amThat said, the facts are DE hasn’t won AA State in going on 22 yearsmuckandgrinder65 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 4:45 pm Holy Hound-dog......!!

LOL, Hermantown drives 11 miles to Amsoil Arena from the High School, but they're at home.hockey59 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 3:30 pmYou are correct about SCC & Hermantown too.
