STA

Post by Hockeyisthebest21 »

It is true we will wait untill STA gets a win over HM, but Nolook, to have credibility you must be able to spell credibility. So it looks like you will be stuck with credability.

first of all, sta is on the upswing... noone can deny that. hill is unknown, my guess is they are better next year but noone knows for sure. and by the way, the 8th grader ur talking about finished the year with like 43 points, which puts him right up their with most of the big boys from hill, AND THE KIDS IN 8th grade! its true that sta needs to beat someone good (besides tartan, which hill cant seem to do anyway), but if u look at their losses, 8 out of their 11 losses were by one goal and 2 of the other 3 were by 2 (only exception is warroad, who by the way woulda smoked hill.) Class A is the jv tourney? Totino and Warroad could beat AHA or Moorhead so their is competition there....

STA better do something in the next couple of years because that little 8th grader certainly will not graduate from that school. Can you say Jrs?...Ann Arbor? Enjoy the offseason STA and the excitement of playing in front of a 1/2 full arena. Then next year, you will lose two games to a Class A size school (HM-as always) and it will justify your school's decision to opt to stay Class A.

STA

Post by brickwall33 »

HockeyisBest21,

If STA school size is doubled that would mean they have around 350 kids or more to choose from 10-12. Hill has around 625 kids in the school. Did you take into consideration that Hill does not have all guys? That would mean that Hill has less guys to choose from than STA. Fact is STA didn't beat Hill this year. STA got to state in a weak A section. Put Mahtomedi in that section and they could be going to state as well. I personally believe that all private schools should play AA and I went to a private school. If you are getting kids from all over the metro you should be playing up.

brickwall is always a solid poster and makes a good point about enrollment figures. But I dont agree a that all privates should be forced to play AA.

I think all programs whose enrollment falls below a given number( say 1,000)should be evaluated on their success and continued prospects for success and be assigned to a Class accordingly.

This would avoid the posibility of an SPA, St Bernards or Holy Family Catholic from being forced to play AA.

If privates are successful because they have and use the "recruiting" advantage, then move em. If they basically play with the kids who happen to enroll anyway, leave em.

Sound fair?

STA and private schools

Brickwall 33

Do you realize that there are private schools outside of the Twin Cities? Some don't draw from such a large population.

Packerboys comments about enrollments size continues to be the way to go unless a school wants to play up to AA.

AA

Post by brickwall33 »

Sorry guys, I really did not take those teams into consideration. I agree that St. Bernard's and others do not belong AA. Packerboy is right on. It is pretty obvious which A private schools belong playing AA hockey. Breck, Blake, DM, Totino ect. I think that these teams should move up to AA, give small towns a better chance at state. The only negative of this is I could see private schools really taking over 10 years down the road if this happens in AA. Look at what Holy Angels has become in such a short time.

Using enrollment sizes for class A vs AA obviously doesn't work. The assumption that of x-many hockey good players per 100 goes out the window when you include the killer B's, Totino, and Duluth Marshall and some other privates. Program strength needs to be the deciding factor. This would have to include teams that annually have a high amount of "Dad got a job at the factory in northern Minnesota" enrollees.
Class A was meant for small towns to have the opportunity to not just go to state, but win.

Holy Angels is becoming a dynasty because Trebil was in the perfect position before he became coach (Jefferson Bantam A's) , he came over and began the program perfectly, attracted players perfectly, maintained the roster perfectly.

Not every team/coach/program possesses that oppurtunity, let alone execute it.

Yeah, I hope you all realize that. It's a complete joke to say Arrigoni is leaving. I've talked to the kid and he can't believe what he's seeing, or why this was even brought up. Arrigoni started as a Pioneer and will end as a Pioneer.

I heard from a player that he was moving.
Very believable that the statement was false and I'm wrong.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... eeAGENT at: 3/10/05 9:33 pm

i guess its the same story with wood. People say he's leaving, people say he's staying. I'm not sure which player you talked to, but it's a false statement.
