USA Women's Team vs. Warroad HS Boys

Post by ARM »

Why is this game taking place? Because Team USA wanted a game against competition, and somebody from Warroad was willing to provide it. This is all about an attempt to garner a gold medal, nothing more. Playing against a bigger/faster team will help the national team prepare for the speed of the game vs. Canada. I'm sure they could have played against some team of men put together specifically for the same purpose, but a game is always better if there are some fans in attendance, and this one should draw more interest.

I'm surprised by all of the "what's in it for Warroad?" questions. If a friend asks you to help them move, is your first question "What's in it for me?" They are helping Team USA out, pure and simple. They shouldn't be mocked or ridiculed, no matter what the outcome.

I have spoken to many wrd hockey grads.....from the 80's on up......so far nobody sees this as a good thing for the boys team.......very odd things happening with wrd's schedule this year......

excellent point ARM, I never thought of it that way. I suppose there is no competition for them amongst womens teams so this is the obvious answer. They certainly don't gain quality game experience beating the **** out of everyone they play so give them a better team to play.

In the end, IMO, I think the boys will be too much for them.

I don't believe anybody's really saying "What's in it for Warroad?" because quite frankly; there is nothing in it for them. I believe the real underlying question that has been bantered is: "Should this be taking place at all?" Do you really believe that the LOW, EGF, TRF or Roseau student bodies really care whether they shouldn't mock or ridicule regardless of outcome. Like I said before it's all about perception and what are those kids going to perceive. They could care less if it's the "Olympic Team". Right or wrong all they'll perceive is the boys versus girls angle. IF Warroad is allowed to play full speed, full contact and a superstar female player is hurt they look like mud. If Warroad has to try play full speed, no contact they are not really playing the game under HS rules, then what's the point, they haven't been allowed to play their game. I say the big mistake is the MSHSL sanctioning this game under their rules allowing body contact and then say under some gentlemen's agreement no-contact. If anything the big losers on this are the Warroad HS Boys team, win or lose, they can still lose.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... m>Renegade Ram at: 10/31/05 1:44 pm

If full body contact is allowed what happens if/when Natalie or Krissy or even Angie blow a shoulder? Will it have been worth it then? Will it still seem like a good idea? How will the boy that injures one of those players feel even if it was a good clean play? I know hockey involves risk but is this a risk that needs to be or better yet should be taken?

warriors vs. US women

Post by Hill Alum »

It is going to be a blowout. Boys by 5 or 6. I went to the WCHA women "all-stars" vs. the USA National Team. I and the whole row in front of me fell asleep watching the game. the speed of their game is not anything like the speed of a good boys varsity team....Does anyone know how the Warroad team wil be this year? As good as last year>??

If anyone on this board doesn't understand why this game is being played in Warroad, they need a Minnesota hockey history lesson.

6 Olympic medalists. A long tradition of the Lakers playing the Olympic team (sometimes beating it) thru 1984. Marvin, Christian, Boucha, etc.

And if you don't know about the Lakers, get off the board and pick up a book.

The question isn't why is it being played in Warroad but why is it being played at all. As for your belief in that some of us need a history lesson why would we need one from JUST a stickboy...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/grin.gif ALT=" >D">

A few of the girls have played on boys teams for a couple of years so its not totally uneven and it was probably the girls idea. If the girls were worried about getting hurt they wouldn't be playing the game.

Read the whole thread smarties. I doubt anyone needs a history lesson as to why the game is being played in Warroad. I hoist Frostys with one of the '56's and the '72 on the wall fairly often and neither of them are really sold on the idea. As for the Lakers part yep they did that, I saw the last two of the games they played against the MEN both were blowout jokes. Now this game COUNTS for or against the Warriors as part of their schedule as it is a sanctioned HS game to be played under HS rules but I've heard there is a no-check agreement so like I've said in previous posts what's the point. This game is a LOSE/LOSE situation for the boys. You can't or won't convince me any differently even though Salol Hockey has been trying since August to say that this is a good thing I still haven't bought in. Mistake on the schools part in agreeing with this but won't be the last one they make.

Who reads that rag, bogus ratings compared to the ones Mitch and Lee provide and good ol' boys patting each others kids on the back. Are they going to be able to play REAL hockey...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... m>Renegade Ram at: 12/22/05 5:25 pm

The Warriors play their best using a physical/hard skating style that has won them many games. The "Girls" should have to adapt to the Warriors style, not the other way around!

Does anyone have an active link to the original story in LPH? I never got a chance to see it.
