2011-12 KRACH RANKINGS - FINAL - Updated 02/26

I have been asked a couple questions about some highly ranked teams with great records but that have weaker SOS to-date and what this means for their long-term ranking.

As one could guess, as they start to play some higher-ranked opponents, their ranking will become more solid - or well defined, and far less volatile.

Unfortunately, teams often have no control over the bulk of their schedule due to conference play and subsequently don't see many teams ranked in the top 20, or even half, in the state. These teams are often Class A teams, with few exceptions.

Also, some coaches that do have schedule control sometimes prefer to player a weaker early-season NC schedule and this is simply a matter of preference. I think the notion here is that it can build confidence - especially with younger teams. I don't agree with this approach, but that's just my preference.

Note that this doesn't mean that these teams won't be highly-ranked all year. It simply means that they have to prove it against some higher-ranked opponents to justify this high-ranking to KRACH.

As mentioned in the Big Games thread the Minneapolis paper shows a 5-5 OT Tie between Elk River/Zimmerman and Eden Prairie. It has the box score so it's probably legit.

Look at your scores in the SOS list and compare those to your AA and A rankings. The records dont match up. I believe the strength of schedule has it correct and the records in the AA/A are inaccurate.

Hmm.. I took a quick - and I mean quick - look and all the records in the five ranking types match-up. I also compared to MN Scores records and the only differences I saw were for teams with Non-MN MSHSL opponents (expected since KRACH doesn't count those games).

I'm going to re-run and re-post as there could have been an issue with the posting and something getting out-of-sync. Plus the EP/ER game is in now so that is another reason to re-run.
