Anyone have a preseason HS ranking to share?

Post by O-townClown » Wed Oct 10, 2007 1:44 pm

I'm curious when I look at schedules how certain teams will be in relation to last year. It is easy to find the Let's Play Hockey final 2006-07 rankings online; how were these teams affected by graduation and other attrition? Which teams move up strong JV players or even Bantams?

Is this the beginnig of the Top 5?

1. Edina
2. Roseau
3. Burnsville
4.
5.

CONSENSUS FROM THE OTHER THREAD

Post by O-townClown » Wed Oct 10, 2007 3:11 pm

Elliott tipped me off to another thread from the summer. Here goes:

1-2: Edina/Roseau

3-5: Holy Angels/Hill-Murray/Centennial

6-7: Duluth East/Burnsville

8-9: Moorhead/Anoka

10-12: Eden Prairie/Grand Rapids/Cloquet

13-18:
Benilde-St. Margaret's
Minnetonka
Wayzata
Duluth Marshall
Duluth Denfeld
St. Thomas Academy

Does this look alright?

I'd swap Hill and Roseau
Drop Centennial down with DE/Burnsville

Get the Class A's out

I agree. You can't really put anyone ahead of Roseau right now, maybe Edina with all the talent they have. Roseau didn't lose much, so putting H-M ahead of them is pretty ballsy. We'll see what happens.

1. Roseau
2. Edina

Okay, why is Duluth East getting such a high ranking? Reputation? Two years in a row they didn't reach the section final? I know Grand Rapids lost White and Stejskal, so there is definetly reason to be skeptical of how they might do this year, but East? Who do they have? Didn't they lose Flagherty(juniors), and Leis to graduation? Right now I think you can clump Rapids/CEC/East/Elk River all at the same level. I don't think any of those teams has a legit reason on paper to be ranked ahead of the others.

Not trying to rant, just looking for a logical explanation?

I was waiting for someone to bring up East!

My answer is, I don't have one. On the surface, I don't see them being that high. My guess is what you implied, reputation. Problem is people forget that they haven't done so well the past two seasons (and I don't want to hear about how East played their worst game when it counted most), and go based on the run they had from '94-'05.

On the other hand, if you take a quick look at East's stats last season, losing Flaherty isn't as big a loss as some might suggest. It's not even close to losing White for Rapids or Johnson for C-town. Losing Ben is a bigger deal, but my sources tell me that Neil Larson will be fine in that role. We'll see.

I wouldn't put them in the Top Ten. The only team I'd put there from 7AA would be the Tornadoes.

The logical explanation is that the ratings I posted are a consensus of the teams mentioned on the thread from this summer. Some people on that thread must have had East in their Top 10s. I don't know why. You seem more qualified to assess the team's forecast than anyone.

In my opinion a pre-season ranking should really look like this for section 7AA:

1. Anoka
t1.5. Cloquet
t1.5. Duluth East
t1.5. Elk River
t1.5. Grand Rapids

I only put anoka up there because they return so much talent.

Neut,

Why get the Class A's out? If they have the talent, they belong. Every year there are a couple of teams that deserve to be in the top ten! The size of the school really has no bearing, as what really matters is the quality of the 20 kids on the team!

Elliott, and all other Duluth East believers... How do you put this team ahead of Grand Rapids and Elk River, but mainly, Cloquet?

Cloquet returns Justin Jokinen who is the top forward in this second and David Brown who is a top 5 defenseman in the STATE. Please explain, East believers.

What I don't understand is how everyone thinks that Anoka is the #1 team in 7AA...I know they are returning some good players, but if you look at last year they had one win against a top tier team (Duluth East). I just can't see them being that much better. The northern schools lose great players every year & always seem to bounce back with really good teams. I think it will be a battle between DE, GR & Cloquet. We will see about Anoka......
