How do you think Duluth East will do with a young team, new goalie, and no Keegan Flaherty?

They'll be strong again, just not quite as dominant as year's past. Some good players moving up from Bantams. Those young one's will need time to adjust though, we'll see what type of attitudes they have. They're probably thinking they'll be able to just walk through most as they did in the youth levels, but as everyone knows, high school is a whole different animal.

East will be just fine without Flaherty.....lots of other good players to step in and make up for the 12 goals he scored last year. It's ben leis they will miss

I just saw Flaherty on the roster for the US Junior Select team... He is a big loss for the Hounds.

Duluth East will be solid this year. There goalies played well in there summer tourneys and they were able to put goals on the board. If they play as a team they will be a tough opponent for anyone. They will miss Keegan a lot, he was a tremendous leader on and of the ice. Respected by his teammates. Any team in the state would miss him. That being said East has a lot of depth with some high end talent and they have dealt with losing big time players before.

seems like he hasn't been playing much, half the game, no goals or assists yet, kind of wonder how he made that team

you have to take into account adjustment time. the game from h.s. to the ushl is a huge jump. he is a young and skilled player and i would bet you will see his stats start to jump here pretty soon.

I noticed there were quite a few kids on that University of St. Thomas roster from Duluth East and Duluth Marshall, but the goalie ended up getting cut this year.

Flaherty will be missed, certainly, but if memory serves he scored one goal after January 1 last year. While he was good, he's much more replaceable than Johnson from Cloquet or White from Rapids.

East's biggest asset, by far, is its incredible depth. Playing the crazy schedule that they have also makes them better as the year goes along. A slow start wouldn't shock me, though.

Keegan will be missed but Tardy, R. Johnson, Renier, and Boese will do a great job up front for the HOUNDS.

Agree, and what a defense...Arbs and with the addition of Forbort, along with returners Friday, Williams and Anderson, the Hounds will be solid

Move up, Marshall, and it happens. See how simple that is?

You will know who Derek Forbort is soon, trust me...best D to play at East in a very long time!

They don't have a problem playing Central and Denfeld every year.

Marshall plays CD Hall, Minnetonka, BS-M. They just want a free pass to the state tournament so they stay in single A. They just recruited a kid from Alexandria also. Word is Forbort, for East, a 6'4" 180lb soph D, is a prospect for the Gophers, but East has a goalie problem.

This topic will stay about Duluth East. If it strays into the usual Marshall vs. East topic which happens every year and is boring, I'll start deleting posts or just nuke the whole thread.

Every single season, the same garbage pops up. Those of us with an IQ higher than 50 or have lived in Duluth for longer than a year understand the history.

The rest can troll elsewhere. The pond is played out. Might I suggest trying the 7A topic?

So do Cloquet, Grand Rapids and others too! With their D, and depth of great forwards, they will be the team ANoka better watch out for. Matt Cooper is a good goalie who played 3 years of Banatam A hockey. He is ready.......

Certainly not trying to throw any gasoline on this fire, but I'm pretty sure that Duluth East plays Duluth Central and Duluth Denfeld every year because they are all in the same school district and are more than likely required to do so.

Will it be Cooper, Larson or a combination of the two this season?

I believe right now, Larson has the nod, played JV last year. This could be a two goalie rotation until one starts playing better than the other. Randolph has been known to put in the younger goalie down the road....
