Young Guns
I was just wondering what some of the teams out there have for young studs. I know bjugstad will be representing Blaine as a Freshman this year, and isnt there a 8th grader playing for Hopkins?

And of Course Everson from Edina

Boyd (8th grade) from Hopkins is ringing up lots of points.
Bjugstad scored a goal on his first shift of his very first HS game on Saturday.
Ben Marshall from Mahtomedi will rack up lots of points as a freshman playing class A.
Not sure that Everson will get much playing time with Edina's tougher schedule and depth at D.
Last year's freshman leading scorer was Joey Benik from St Francis.

I was under the impression that Everson made the move from Bantams to high school because of lack of depth on D.
Gleason, Regan, Baker..............then? I am sure the move was calculated by young Mr. Everson and his family. He didn't make the move to sit on the pine.

Despite the schedule, he'll see plenty of third period action.breakout wrote: I was under the impression that Everson made the move from Bantams to high school because of lack of depth on D.

Brandon Derks is the only sophomore on the ANOKA Varsity and he is centering the 2nd line.

The younger Everson is playing first line D along with Joe Gleason. He has played very well so far and had his best game against Eastview on Saturday. He finally started to play like he wasn't afraid to make a mistake or take a penalty and started to hit and carry the puck more, instead of just giving it to Gleason and staying back. He also jumped into more offensive plays. He is probably won't see a ton of time of on the powerplay or penalty kill, but he is playing 1st line as a freshman.my2cents wrote:Boyd (8th grade) from Hopkins is ringing up lots of points.

Travis Boyd is playing very well and has 6 goals and 4 assists for Hopkins. He should be a force for years to come. He is a very smart player and although he won't do much hitting, he should be strong enough to avoid getting pushed around.

Maybe that proves that ANOKA isnt much deeper than Belisle, O'Neil, and Berkley Scotthockey59 wrote:Brandon Derks is the only sophomore on the ANOKA Varsity and he is centering the 2nd line.

John Skrbec scored his first goal today for Grand Rapids. He is a sophomore and is very gifted. This was the first game he played in as he missed the first two due to injury.

There are two Boyds on the Hopkins team, are you sure travis is the one scoring? I've seen him play and fing it hard to believe he's dominating at the varsity level. A nice player, must have really improved over the summer....peewees to dominating the lake conference, that would be a first in the 35 years i've followed the lake conference.
Travis is definitely the one scoring. He has made immense improvements during the last year.... but let's also remember who he has played. Irondale, North Metro, and Duluth Central. Not exactly high-calibur teams. Still though, for an 8th grader to be doing as well as he's doing, even against weak opponents, is incredible. I look forward to seeing how far he can go in the future.keepyourheadup wrote:There are two Boyds on the Hopkins team, are you sure travis is the one scoring? I saw that he was a D on MAXpreps, if that is where you saw it too. I, however, have heard he is playing forward like he always has and the coach may have just made a mistake in the posting.mch wrote:is travis the 8th grader a defenseman? because 10 points in 3 games is fantastic for an 8th grade defenseman
However, I am 99.99999999% sure he is the one doing the scoring. Also, he has always been one of the top 3 in his grade and one of the Top 10 93's

No question he is a top eigth grader but has not been considered among the top 10 93's until now. Watched his 93 lightning team for years and he was good but trust me between the Icemen, Blades, Predators and the Lightning he was not one of the top ten and thats only metro kids. Thats what makes watching youth players so great, to see a kid develop like this, sounds like he's got quite a future in front of him. I'll definatly be watching. Sounds like the next Mike Fink in the hopkins program.
