Behind the Bench.......

Post by scottym01 » Tue Dec 04, 2007 6:15 pm

For some reason there are certain teams that have 100 coaches (OK 5+) on the bench during the game. White Bear and Elk River have the 2-3 system (2 in front opening doors, 3 in the back doing ?). Add in a trainer, manager, the hurt player with a helmet and his letter jacket, and you could get to 10.

When is it good to have that many chiefs? I just find it comical! The best teams I played on had one maybe two voices. Otherwise it was just noise!

Anyway it is something to observe when the game is slow this season.

I think a team can only have 3 coaches on the bench. And I can't recall the last time I saw high schoolers get the doors opened for them.

White Bear has three full time varsity (Sager, Butters, Nitti), and the "swing" coach (Long) comes on the bench for varsity.

I think the rule is 3 coaches behind the bench. At least that is what it is at the state tournament. i don't know if they inforce it during the regular season.

Actually, they ONLY enforce that rule at the "X". Marriucci is a free for all.
I believe you can have 4 coaches for reg. season. Which seems stupid, but it is the MSHSL.
....Can't thank you enough for the time.

we had a problem with the number of personel on the bench..the other coach didnt like how he had to talk through 6 coaches...so i do agree that they should only allow 3 coaches and a trainer
