Feb 6-7 Wisconsin @ Minnesota

Post by Lucia4President »

The 16th ranked Badgers (14-11-3 overall, 11-7-2 WCHA, 3rd) play the 9th ranked Gophers (12-7-5 overall, 9-6-3 WCHA, Tied-4th) this weekend at Mariucci Arena. The Badges split with UMD last weekend at the Kohl Center, and the Gophers were swept by Minnesota State in a home and home series. Both these teams need the points this weekend.

Predictions and thoughts?

Neither team is playing particularly well as of late. I want to say a Gophers sweep, but I just can't.

I'll go with a split also.
Badgers 3-2 Friday.
Gophs 3-2 Saturday.
I assume Stoa and Sachetti are out for Fridays game.
Plus, I'll be there on Saturday. :)

You never know what you're going to get with both of these teams.

Wisconsin has strong wins over Michigan, Michigan State, North Dakota, etc. However, they've also been swept by Northern Michigan at home.

Minnesota have been inconsistent since November. The Gophers did look better when these two teams played in Madison, but what Gopher team are you going to get this weekend? Thinking about it makes me sick.

As much as I'd like to see the Gophers whoop up on Wisconsin, I don't see it. In fact, I think the opposite is very possible. The Gophers have given up 6 goals in 4 of their last 6 games.

Wisconsin 6, Minnesota 2 on Friday
Minnesota 4, Wisconsin 2 on Saturday

Mitch, you have to be feeling pretty good about the Bucky sweep. Image

Same story for MN... getting old...

Dominate the early part of the game, outshooting the opponent, getting golden opportunities and not capitalizing on them, only to have the opponent come down the side boards and throw a harmless shot from 3' off the goal line and 35' off the net, only to have the goalie not in position, and caroom 5 hole between the pads...

This goal set the tone for the game, and this type of play by the entire Gopher squad is becoming the norm... not good as we approach March...

Don and the coaching staff have some work to patch this sinking ship...

I love supporting this program and have for so many years, but I have to say, this recent skid has been very hard to watch... :(
