U.S.H.L. Futures Draft May 1st 96's Birth Year...
How Many Minnesota kids get drafted ???? (19) my guess ...
USHL 96 Futures draft predictions
I'll throw out a few predictions for USHL tomorrow night:
Early rounds:
Malmquist
Munson
Walker
Later Rounds: At least ten of the kids on the final HP roster going to New York.

Would be shocked if Walker is selected since it is rumored he is going to the WHL. USHL teams want kids that have goals of playing in College, and the WHL voids NCAA eligibility.
Look for Gersich to probably go very early, along with a couple of the Shattuck kids. Thinking quite a few Minnesota kids will be drafted. Something interesting will be to see if some kids that didn't make it to NY get picked while some that did make it don't get selected.

The USHL GM/Coaches don't care if a kid wants to go to college or not, they want to get the best players they can so they can keep their jobs. It's a business and they are paid to win, getting kids to college is nice, but that doesn't keep their job or moving to the next level.Hscout000 wrote:Would be shocked if Walker is selected since it is rumored he is going to the WHL. Gross and Brodzinksi went #6 and #7 last year. USHL GM/Coaches are going to draft the best available players.

The USHL has to focus its attention on top kids that seem interested in maintaining their college eligibility because that is the league's biggest "differentiator" against the CHL. They aren't going to win many battles against the CHL for top kids that "don't care" about playing NCAA hockey. That's just a reality. If they draft kids who don't care about NCAA, odds are they won't end up bringing many of those kids in because those kids will just chose to play in the CHL.mulefarm wrote:The USHL GM/Coaches don't care if a kid wants to go to college or not
So yes... it does matter if a kid wants to play college or not. They may not all end up in NCAA but the desire to maintain that opportunity is a key motivator.

What next
Here is a fan question. Does this mean these kids won't be back in high school jerseys come fall. I would hope I would get to see these kids one more year anyway. If anyone is in the know please share.

Re: What next
It's highly likely that most of them will be playing MSHSL next season. This is the futures draft, meaning that they might not be ready now, but their rights are owned for the future. A couple might be playing in the USHL though. Obviously Omaha thinks Gersich is ready.grandmeadowhockeyfan wrote:Here is a fan question. Re: What next
Most kids will be back next year in High School. The teams have only secured the rights to the player if they choose to play in the USHL. Please correct me if I have it wrong.grandmeadowhockeyfan wrote:Here is a fan question. Does this mean these kids won't be back in high school jerseys come fall. It was a good day for the Blades. Nine of the players drafted played for the Blades U16 team last fall. This is the team, coached by Jamie Huffman and Scott Steffen, that beat Shattuck three times (of four).
Congratulations to all the draftees. Good work.

Honestly Puckster.....You are correct on this. The individual players displayed there ability with the tools they were taught not the Blades. Even though they belonged to the Blades it was the players that excelled. Fortunately for the Blades they can have bragging rights that there organization got them there, but essentially it is the individual that comprehends and retains what is instilled in themselves not only from Summer hockey, but also Winter. Individuals prevail not the Blades or any other AAA hockey organizationThePuckStopsHere wrote:No Terry you Media Whore - It was a good day for these individual players not YOUterrymoore1717 wrote:It was a good day for the Blades. futures draft
I get your points, but no sense being disrespectful to TM. Interesting that 9 draft picks played for the Blades Organization, who either recognized a large percentage of the eventual drafted talent at a younger age and secured them on their teams, or were recognized themselves by top players as an organization where top talent can develop and will be recognized.Nobodyonya wrote:Honestly Puckster.....You are correct on this. Bottem line: USHL Management looking to draft Future Picks look at the Blades Organization for talented players. Period.

Obviously you have no idea about these kids, most of them were from the 96 machine, They were used by the Blades for 3 month period before high school hockey started, the Blades did not get them there nor did they own them.
Only terry moore would come on here and claim responsibility for the Blades Organization.
Congrats to the kids for your hard work, keep it up it only gets tougher from here.
