New Elk River High School Coach

Post by ERPWA Hockey »

For Immediate Release:

Elk River High School is proud to announce that Gordie Roberts has accepted the position of Head Boys Hockey Coach. Gordie, a member of the US Hockey Hall of Fame, played in the NHL for 21 years, including the Minnesota North Stars, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, and won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and 1992. He represented the United States in the Canada Cup in 1984 and the World Championships in 1982 and 1987. In addition, Gordie was the Director of Player Development and an Assistant Coach with the Phoenix Coyotes over a span of 5 years, and a scout for the Montreal Canadiens for 9 years. Since 2010, Gordie has been coaching the defensemen at Hamline University. Gordie will start work immediately as he transitions into his new role as the Elks Head Coach. We are ecstatic to have a coach with his level of experience and character. Gordie will start to put his coaching staff together in the next few weeks.

An impressive resume, to say the least. I don't know anything about him as a coach, but knowing the talent level in the Elk River program, he should have a chance to make a splash pretty quickly. Another interesting wrinkle for 7AA over the next few years.
