USHL Draft Today - 5/22. 4pm CDT

Post by Wallyworld » Tue May 22, 2012 9:37 am

**** USHL Draft Today. *****

Anyone know how many MInnesotans are taken and ballpark breakdown by those drafted after Soph, Junior, (Senior?) year in high school. Since it sounds like they can draft anyone up to 96's (since their futures draft covers that)..also, do most Soph, JR's that are projected to play D1 get drafted by USHL.. Again trying to get a better feel for the whole deal from some of you who are well schooled on these drafts year in year out - and trying to get some discussion going around the topic..

Any help is deeply appreciated..

Congrats to a few more D-men that didnt get picked or overlooked for the U17 team...

Snuggerud, Warner and Swingle - Great Job! The 95's do have alot of very good Defensemen statewide....Very deep in my opinion - they could have taken 10 or more out to the U17's...but only so many spots I guess

Congrats to all on the list..!

congrats to all

question: If not drafted what is the realistic chance on making a team if you are invited to their main/trout camp. I would expect very remote and for the cost of camp, lodging, etc. is it really worth it? I would think this would cost 1K by the time you are done.

I know 2 guys who did it just last year and made the team. As with everything else, it comes down to how bad you want it. It was worth it for them.

Undrafted players could stand a better chance potentially then some of the drafted players. Teams that picked players with a "flyer" pick may not have room for them and the player is now beholden to that team. An undrafted player can attend the camp of a team who has a need for that type of player/position. The 3 pick is leaving and will play in the league next year as will most of the other top rounders. The others now have their righrts held but are not holding a jersey.

Fargo, Dubuque also invite Walsh of Edina

I agree with above comment that it might actually be better to not get a late-round draft slot and go free agent and have more options. I know that Eric Freschi of Jefferson was a camp invitee and was put on Dubuque's roster. He did well and played a lot.

A valid question if the intention is to weigh leaving high school. but if the participation is part of training or to see what it's like, then i'd say being the camp is perfectly fine.

since you were there, see anyone who stood out?

I thought dickman did pretty good. I thought baskin was one of the best players on the ice he should have a good chance to make the team next year.

I don't believe he's committed yet. At least the USHL isn't showing anything.

C.J. Franklin made the Souix Falls team. [going to camp] Coaches were very possitive after this weekend.

Saw he walked out on his baseball team during the game against GR on Sat. May very well have cost them the game. Will they welcome him back with open arms today?

Yes he played Tue. Varsityncoach was Bantam coach and told him good luck. It sounds like it sucked, but what do you do??? He wants to play hockey next year not baseball. [even though he has offers to play ball in college already.
