Just a guess, but maybe because they believe that at least one team can compete with the best of 2A in the top bracket?
They always seem to have STA in there and on occasion Breck makes the cut as well. I think they do it based on the previous years success. They were correct in having STA in it this year as they will clearly be a top 8 team in the State in either class. The Breck dynasty however appears to be on a significant decline and won't likely win a Schwann's Cup game this year and may not even have had a chance in the silver division.

The team who wins the Silver/Bronze tournament moves up to the next tier the following year, the team who goes winless moves down a tier the following year. Breck is declining from where they were a few years ago, but Blake also lost two of their best players so it would come as no surprise to see them back at the X in March.

This promotion/relegation system ruined this tournament. They should get some knowledgable high school hockey watchers to target the top expected the 8 teams in the state. To often a promising young team loses 2 straight in the Gold and are automatically excluded the next year

From perusing the content of the board lately, I've drawn the following conclusions:

1. the Elite League doesn't know what it's doing
2. private schools are player-stealing hockey factories
3. large public schools are player-stealing hockey factories
4. small public schools aren't worth paying attention to
5. Minnesota Hockey is ruining the local associations
6. tryouts are all rigged at all levels
7. the best players are held down by the system
8. most coaches don't know what they're doing
9. players who leave early are traitors
10. players who stay are hurting their development
11. the entire sport is going pear-shaped

I think I'm going to curl up in a fetal position until the screaming stops (insert sarcasm). Some people just can't be happy unless they're unhappy, I guess.

Welcome back Q, I think I'm going move my opinions to the big boy bracket and follow along. Enough of the same old stench that creates this, lets watch what is created...much more exciting.
