Edina Classic

Post by Metrohockeyfan » Sun Dec 16, 2012 4:23 pm

With my favorite regular season tournament coming up this weekend, interested in hearing some predictions. Will Edina continue to roll over teams? Will Eden Prairie turn their year around? And what will we find out about the somewhat unknown Elks and Grand Rapids?

I predict that Edina will sweep, however, I am very interested in their matchup against EP. We will see if the northern boys bring in any surprises.

How come Rapids isn't an option? My vote sticks with Edina, I just know some Rapids fans will be upset with that!

Edina goes 3-0.
EP loses to Edina and Rapids, beats Elk River.
Rapids loses to Edina and beats the other two.
Elk River goes 0-3.

Also wondering why there is no GR option. If one team is going to surprise this weekend, it will be them. Strong goalie in the pipes.

I added it. Put Rapids in ALL CAPS, too, just for effect.

It was either a case of no respect, or the OP couldn't spell Rapids.

as much as i would love to see my Hornets come out as champs i think they will come out of here with a loss... i hope they prove me wrong but 16 days since there last game and that was a poor performance with a 2-1 win over Prior Lake, i think the rust will be showing and they fall to GR in the first game who always seems to give them trouble i feel like but after that they beat ER and EP. But the champion i think this year will be a 3 way tie as i think EP will beat GR

The way I see it, the first 4 games will determine the champion. If Edina rolls through Grand Rapids and the Elks, they beat EP and win it all. If Elk River beats EP, they lose to Edina and beat Rapids. If EP beats the Elks and Rapids, and Rapids or Elk River keeps it close with Edina, EP beats Edina. If Rapids beats Edina on Thursday, they win it all.

Always a great tournament. The goalie from Grand Rapids has a shot to take 3 games down at Edina, he is outstanding.

The goaltender out of Rapids has had to do the lions share of the work to reach 5-1 at this point which puts him in the category of outstanding. It is not a deep group. This kid can win games, much like Bitzer did at Moorhead.

Hurley and the Hornets are way too deep. They will take this thing.

I agree with rapids and Edina, I don't know about Elk River though. I would take EP's goaltending over Elk River

Is the West rink still down? If so, I assume all games will be played on the South rink?

Nope. Started making ice last week sometime and skating on Sunday. The new locker rooms may be open for these games too!

I think Patrick White just scored on Greenway again. How's it being a bunch of losers in single A?

You wouldn't have to be any of those to pick Edina. It's an obvious choice.

Always a good tournament, but also will be a good test for all 4 teams. 3 games in three nights is not easy at any level. Will be interesting to see how good Edina's 3rd and 4th line will play as it will take more than two lines to win 3 in 3 nights. This tournament is always difficult to predict and with a goaltender playing as well as Rapids, who knows what can happen.
If i had to predict based on what we have been shown thus far, I have to say Edina is clearly the favorite, but anyhting can happen in the next 3 days.

This tourney has lot's of intrigue and should be fun.
- Will EP start playing like expected?
- Gordie Roberts V Curt Giles
- How good are GR and ER
- Will Edina dominate
Looking forward to seeing the games and answering these questions

Eden Prairie up 2-0 on Elky after one period in Game 1.

It's my first time seeing the Elks. It looks like Gordie Roberts is a graduate of the Mike Randolph school of coaching: some nice, aggressive forechecking and cycling in the offensive zone, but not much to show for it yet. I'm a bit surprised Zerban and Jaremko are on different lines. They have 3 good, hard-working lines, but they'll need to find some goals, and the depth on D leaves something to be desired.

EP's top line is in good form tonight, and they're doing a better job of limiting ER's chances than they did against Andover on Saturday.
