With a HUGE thanks to MNHockeyFan for running the Big Games contest for some 5 odd years, I'll throw my hat into the ring and attempt to take over the reins. I only ask that you give me at least two weeks to get my act together in an attempt to do justice to MNHockeyFan's yeoman's work, before sending any slings or arrows my way.
That being said, I'll send out a list of weekly games for this contest during the 2014-15 regular season. If things go well, some holiday tournaments, too. Once the regular season is finished, I would then add separate contests for Sections and the State Tournaments.
The criteria to make the list of games each week will be that BOTH teams must be currently ranked - in the Top 20 if they are a Class AA team or in the Top 20 if they are Class A (note that I'm including the Top 20 Class A teams instead of Top 10 Class A teams as in previous years in order to stretch the participants' knowledge a bit more . . . or maybe just provide for a few more "easy" points.)
One other change I'd like to make is to add the "Biggest Game of the Week" (BGotW). The criteria for this is the lowest combined total KRACH rankings (i.e., the lowest possible combined total would be 3 - not counting a theoretical tie - if #1 played #2). I realize that early season KRACH rankings are a bit funky, but they should settle down in a couple of weeks. This game will award a second bonus point if the contestant guesses the correct score (3 points maximum) for this game.
I'll use as my source the LPH rankings and Hockey Hub for schedules. Please let me know if you notice any inaccuracies in Hockey Hub and I'll make adjustments accordingly.
To start things off there are 18 qualifying games that will be played this week. We're missing a few games from last weekend and there isn't much time to predict the November 11 games. I was out of town last week and thought that it was worthwhile to keep this tradition going, even if we have a somewhat slow start.
To participate, just copy and paste the list of games into your post and add your predicted score for each. You’ll earn one point for forecasting the winner of each game, and another bonus point for any correct score (and two bonus points for a maximum three points for the correct score of the "Biggest Game of the Week"). Be sure to post your predictions by each week’s deadline. The deadline for posting this week is 7PM on Tuesday, November 11th. However, due to the late start of this contest, you can submit your picks by 6:45PM on Thursday, November 13th, but will be missing the four November 11th games.

I had hoped that the first error wouldn't happen until at least the 2nd or 3rd week, but the first game on November 13 should be #4AA Wayzata @ #15AA Lakeville South, not Totino-Grace at Lakeville South. This one will need to be thrown out unless everyone can edit their picks before game time. Our quality control manager has been sacked.

Minnetonka defeated Burnsville 5-0 behind 2 goals each by Norby and Rice and a shutout by Delaittre. Shots were 52-6 in favor of the Skippers. All 15 entrants predicted a Minnetonka victory. While there were several 6-0 and 5-1 predictions, no one got this quite right for the bonus point.
Edina defeated Lakeville North 3-0 behind 2 more goals by Williamson, giving her 7 after only 2 games. Shots were fairly even, as Edina outshot Lakeville North 23-18, and Petersen was perfect in net for the Hornets. The panel favored Edina by a 12-3 margin. Again, no one was able to predict the exact score.
In the BGotW, Breck defeated Benilde 4-0, continuing the string of shutouts. G. Zumwinkle scored two goals and Scobee recorded the shutout. Shots were 36-24 in favor of Breck. The panel predicted a Breck victory by an 11-4 margin and two predictors, clutterbucket and panpan111, each earned 2 bonus points for correctly predicting the 4-0 score. Well done, nice job of saving your best predictions for the biggest game!
In the final game, Blaine edged Totino-Grace 2-1 with no scoring in the 3rd period. All 15 of our entrants correctly predicted this one, but it was much closer than most thought as the average margin of victory was forecasted at 4-1. No one predicted the correct score here, either.

After the November 13 games, we have the following:
South St. Paul defeated Mound Westonka 4-2 with Barlow scoring 2 goals for the Packers. This was a mild upset according to our panel which favored Mound Westonka by an 11-6 margin. Hockeymaven and hockeybozo each correctly predicted this score leading me to believe, at least for this small sample size, that it helps to have "hockey" in your nickname.
Although our predictors were evenly split between Blaine and Stillwater (8 Blaine, 8 Stillwater, and 1 tie), the Ponies had no difficulty deciding who was the better team this evening as they routed the Bengals 6-0. Eger and Hart each scored 2 goals for Stillwater. No one predicted this score.
Proctor/Hermantown stifled Moose Lake 7-1 with Gilbert leading a balanced scoring attack with 2 goals. Although a couple predictions were close, no one got this exactly right. Our panel was unanimous in predicting a Mirage victory.
HockeyHub shows that Minnetonka and Thief River Falls a Final 0-0 tie, although the online stats are very incomplete. I will leave this as is unless I hear otherwise or HH is updated. No one predicted this score.
In the final game of the evening, St. Paul United defeated Chisago Lakes 4-2 with Burke and Phelps each providing half of their team's goals. SPU also outshot Chisago Lakes by a 2-1 margin. Our crack team of prognosticators favored SPU by a 16-1 margin. Hockeybozo, despite not beginning his predictions until November 13, nailed his/her second correct score of the evening and clearly has huge momentum.
So, after two nights, the scoring looks as follows:

Yes, I did throw out the Wayzata/Lakeville South game as we didn't get everyone to adjust their predictions.
The standings are more bunched up now as all but two (the previous co-leaders, as it turns out) predicted a Skipper triumph.
