Levine better be ready to take some major hits. If you think ER hits hard, wait til Saturday. From what I heard Rapids cleaned the Elks clock in the checking dept. Rapids has 4 defensemen that are very mean, gritty, but at the same time very good with the puck. Jefferson is a quality opponent no doubt, they are solid all around.

Grand Rapids 1
Blm. Don't be such a defeatist. And if they lose to Jefferson it's nothing to be ashamed of. But, from what I saw of Jefferson at the Xcel, they are a team this years' Rapids squad can beat with a good effort.

I believe Rapids lost their last game 2-1 to St Louis Park. How was the game and is St Loius Park a pretty good team?

Do you think the people of GR like the nickname Thunderhawks, GR fans hate it. Notice, GR19, not Thunderhawks19. Most people in town say Grand Rapids and avoid the nickname.

On to wild77, SLP is ranked #3 I think in single A. Rapids had 3 good goals disallowed in that game I was told from someone at the game.

I think that GR has a chance in this one, they must play their best game. Lee in goal is rock solid, and as far as "Levine better be ready to take some hits" he is about as solid and tough a kid as their is. He can disappear at times, but if you forget about him, he will make you pay. Nothing fancy, just flat out speed and toughness. Jags 4-GR 2

Well, even though on another thread I said the Jags were my second favorite team I would now like to recant that statement. Gotta cheer for the northern boys over the city boys. Good luck boys and represent 7AA well.

Was it Lee who allowed 4 goals on 14 shots in the loss to Lakeville North?

_________________

BOB

No, I was just wondering if Lee played every game. I am fully aware that it is tough to score on Mr. Lee. However, Reidar Jensen has been very good for Grand Rapids.

_________________

BOB

He has. I just may have to make it to this one since I'll be close by on Friday. What's another night? Is the game Saturday @ 4:30?

Game Saturday and beyond

Post by JLS 81 » Thu Jan 05, 2006 12:13 pm

Game will be decided on Rapids Defensemen ability to handle JAGS heavy forecheck pressure. There will be bouts where the goalie for Rapids will have to stand tall in net and he has shown that capability quite nicely this season. If Rapids handles and adjusts to JAG's they can win 3-2 or 2-1. If not they will lose 2-3 or 1-2. Also the one center for Rapids needs to trust his linemates more to open up ice for himself and allow that line to generate more offense as his wings are two very good forwards. If he does this good things will result in the second half of season. Bruce could potentially hang a banner as 7AA champion in 2005-2006 campaign.

Jefferson may be a little overrated in people's opinion right now and i hope jefferson doesn't think they are better than they are, if they come out ready to play, they'll win, if they come out thinkin it may be a cake walk GR will take it to them, but overall i pick the powder blu jags to come out in this one 3-1 with an empty netter

I'm stickin' with my score prediction. HockeyJ - you bring up good points and I think it's been haunting the Jags. If they play hard for ALL 3 periods, they will have a decent win.

Neat story to this rivalry in the Blades of Glory. What is the record of this meeting and when was the last time Rapids beat the Jags?

They tied 0-0 when we had Matti Korhonen, Matt Miskovich was a senior. I remember Rapids beat them 4-2 in Rapids in 95 when Aaron Miskovich was a junior, and I think they beat them again the next year in Bloomington, and I recall A. Miskovich broke a 3-3 tie with like 30 seconds left to get the W for GR.

GR19 - I doubt Levine is new to having attention paid to him by the opposing team, I've seen him in the Jefferson weight room at over 200# and basically no body fat - GR may want to go after somebody else for "major hits" plus he's the kind of player you don't necessarily want to tick off. You also might want to be more careful about calling out individual kids for punishment. They are just kids after all, right?

Its reasonable to argue that BJ is overrated, I've said it myself and I rank them 6 currently. But its also reasonable to point out that BJ has done well considering they've opened the season with not enough depth of scoring and sport a good record nonetheless. BJ suffered from this in the Schwan's and still did well, and the reason is they have a good deal of team speed and have done well in GAA as a team. The big question mark is can they get more scoring and fix some mechanical flaws by sections. If they can, I don't see any team other than AHA being clearly better than them, including HM.

Should be a close game in GR, I'll go 5-3 BJ just to spite GR19. I wouldn't look to GR's alleged checking of ER as much of an indicator since ER, excluding a few top players, is not that fast or quick - find something else to hang your orange hat on. LaBombard is back and getting healthy and that will help the entire team. I don't think as a team that GR can handle BJ's team speed, but that advantage could be washed out by BJ's lack of scoring depth if it continues. BJ has Lakeville South tonight, the best thing that can come out of that game is to get a few kids that haven't been scoring some points and renewed confidence going into GR.
