2015 Class AA Sections - Your Predictions!

Fantastic evening of Sectional hockey, close games, drama, mild upsets, comebacks, shining stars, unlikely heroes, everything you want at Sections. Although the State tournament is watered down, this was some great hockey to enjoy, not just last night, but the previous Section championships as well. Congratulations to all of the participants and good luck to those advancing.

Class AA
2AA – Final
#1 Eden Prairie 3 (OT)
#2 Edina 4
A back and forth game, with EP tying it up less than two minutes to go on a power play goal, then Williamson ending it just under four minutes into the OT period. EP's many OT games this season were not enough to prevent this untimely defeat. A great legacy of these two teams in youth and HS hockey and one more chance at State experience and success. A shame that both highly-ranked teams could not advance, but what excitement at the Section level!
Eight of us had the Hornets advancing while rascalbrock also picked the correct score to earn some crucial bonus points.
4AA – Final
#1 Hill-Murray 3
#2 Cretin-Derham Hall 1
This game went as most expected at the end with HM defeating CDH 3-1. However, the game was much closer than the score indicated. All of the scoring took place in the 3rd period and was tied with under a minute to play. HM used goals at 16:04 and 16:55 to eke out the win. All but three of us picked the Pioneers to win with clutterbucket earning bonus points for the correct score.
5AA – Final

#2 Blaine 3
More high drama as Blaine upset Centennial 3-2. Blaine scored the winning goal by Wolens with only 7 seconds to play in regulation. Five of us picked the Bengals to advance with mnhockey3534 and massalsa also picking the correct scores. Nicely done.
6AA – Final
#1Minnetonka 3
#3 Wayzata 2 (OT)
Still more drama with another Lake/6AA nail-biter. Wayzata took an early lead, Tonka tied, Wayzata took another lead and Tonka tied with 5:26 remaining in regulation. Tonka then ended the Trojans' dreams scoring the winner with 5:26 remaining in OT, on a goal by Bigham. A shame that both highly-ranked teams could not advance, but great Section hockey for those who could witness it. 12 of us predicted the Skippers to advance, but no correct scores.
8AA – Final
#1 Roseau 2
#2 Buffalo 4
Again a game closer than it looked, as it was tied until 6:46 in the 3rd, when Buffalo took a 3-2 lead and then added an insurance goal late. Roseau took an early 2-0 lead, but the Bison scored four unanswered goals for a 4-2 victory. Only two of us, sparlimb and puckdreams, predicted a Buffalo State journey.
Here are the final standings. Sparlimb rode a great last night, culminating with the Buffalo win, to stampede into first place. mnhockey3535 also used some savvy last-day picks to move into second. And (the) wolfman was at or near the top the entire contest and finishes in third place, or the gamma wolf, as it were. Congrats to the winners and thanks to all for playing. Look for the State contest soon.
