Though I still maintain my objection to the two-class system, the greatest thing that it has given us is the opportunity to watch a player from International Falls named Critter Nagurski.

I recall watching the tape of the hill-murray/Cloquet game in '92 and the announcer (can't remember his name, gravelly voice, did the play by play for the movie, Mystery Alaska -- somebody help me). Anyway, he's calling the game, and says the following, "Dutch Barrett, we swear that's his real name". I always thought that was pretty funny. So, Dutch Barrett, great hockey name.

MajinHockey,

You're probably thinking of Doug MacLeod, former North Star and Golden Gopher hockey announcer. Without a doubt, one of the great "homers" of all time.

I would have to say that Steve 'Pokey' Trachsel is my

favorite name from Duluth Cathedral back in '69.

Pokey was a great name for a guy who had plenty of

speed, skill and strength. Huffer Christensen

Post by DoRight101 » Wed Jan 29, 2003 3:04 pm

How about Huffer Christensen? His real name was Keith, but everyone just knew him as Huffer. From I-Falls, then went to UMD as a tiny, 5-foot-6 fireplug who was a magician with a hockey stick, and starred at center for UMD at the time UMD made the move to D1. He was a legitimate first-team All-American and WCHA scoring champion twice for UMD and later played pro hockey for the Minnesota Fighting Saints. He still lives in Duluth and sells cars at Kolar.

There was a time when 'Gay' meant having a positive,

festive attitude. And great players named Richard were

usually known as 'Dick'. After the games many would go

to a local 'joint' to have a drink or two to rehash the

games or whatever. That was before the decline of

western civilization beginning in the sixties so I'm sure

that Dick Lick probably had a fine time shooting and

chasing pucks as his country was out kicking the crap

out of the Nazis and the Japs during his childhood.

Especially if he made it to the State Tourney back in his

day. Never was too fond of jerks that made fun of the

fine players who were known by their birth given names

such as Dick Lick, Dick Purpur (GFRedskins), Dick Gramer

(CCathedral) , or even Dick Nixon...( President of the

United States). One of the greatest linebackers in the

NFL was named Dick and he would probably have had no

trouble at all kicking your (_!_)ttkus if you tried to

demean his legacy by attaching some tacky innuendo to

his good name.

L<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /alien.gif ALT="0]"> E, SL<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> PSH<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> TER.

(...a legend in his <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> wn mind...)

Kraft and Cullen from Moorhead rank up there as some of the top names.

Wyatt smith is another one. I still remember in 94 the state tournament, a slapshot from the point deflecting off his stick into the net to give warroad the win in overtime.

Just another dick for you, i beleive one of the greatest youth hockey coaches ever. Over 1000 wins in his 30 some years, he made roseau hockey players respectful. A hard ass you dont appreciate till you are done having him as your coach.

I won't even say it but you get the picture. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

This Richard Head, though everyone calls him Dick, has

got to be the most elusive player in the history of the

state. He's played in a heck of a lot of games that I've

been to but I've yet to pin down his number. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

Everytime someone scores I hear the fans yelling out his

name but he's never the one announced as the one who

scored the goal or made the assist. I would guess that

his forefathers had a lot of kids and named a good many

of the males Richard. Kind of like the George Forman

approach to siblings of the same sire especially when it

came to sons. All I know is that this kid never graduates

or he has a lot of cousins or brothers or both, that play

throughout the state of Minnesota because I hear his

name at almost every game. And that's why I can't tell

you exactly what team he's on. He seems to be on a lot

of teams. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /devil.gif ALT=":evil"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/grin.gif ALT=" >D">

L<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /alien.gif ALT="0]"> E, SL<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> PSH<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> TER.

(...a legend in his own mind...)

I know I look young for my age <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> but theres another

thing that neglected mention.
