Mr. Hockey '03....who will get it?????

Post by slapshot » Thu Jan 30, 2003 4:47 pm

Just seeing who people think deserve to recieve the Mr. Hockey award this season and why. My suggestion would probably be Nate Dey from NorthSt.Paul. What do you guys think???...

I like Dey, but IMHO he isn't the best player on his team and was average at best in the Elite League. I know about the Central Scouting Rankings, but they tend to use the carpenter method of scouting and love tall players. I know he'll be in the top 50, I doubt the top 10 finalists

Based on history of U of M signees winning the award, I'm going with 1) Gordon and 2) Borgen. If Reagan wins it, I'll walk out of the Prom Center and directly into oncoming traffic on 94.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... lap>Reggie Dunlap at: 1/30/03 5:08:15 pm

The votes have been in for two weeks and it was Ben Gordon in a landslide.

I guess I started this just to see what others thought. The main reason i picked Dey, is because i have seen him play many times as well as played with him. From all of this I do have a bias towards him, but i honestly only know bits and pieces about the other guys as well. Dey is one of the best guys i have ever met, on and off the ice, and I just kind of hoped for his recognition, knowing that there were probably a few more talented players out there. I feel the same about Garrity and Peterson from NSP. I think that if Garrity could go hard for a full game, and Peterson had some more size, that they would be some top prospects as well. I respect all of the opinions of you all, and I'm sure that Gordon, Borgen and others deserve the props that they get as well. I just think credit is due where deserved, and Dey, Garrity and Peterson all deserve if nothing else an honorable mention.

I honestly have not seen the 3 from North St.Paul play this year, but Im gonna check 2 of them out tonight against Hill. But the best player I have seen so far this year has been Kilpatrick. I havent seen Gordon play this year either. But I have a feeling Gordon is going to win it. He's got the numbers and he's gonna be a Gopher.

It must be that day of the month again. Another rehashing of why Ben Gordon will be Mr. Hockey. Yep, he will, there's no way around it. The only other guy that could take it is Brent Borgen. Them's the rules.

Like most years there are many deserving players. Whoever wins will get my congrats. I would say the final five will be as follows. In no particular order.

Borgen
Kilpatrick
Gordon
Thauwald
Garrity

From what I have read it is pretty much a done deal on who have legit chances to win this award. Thus, my vote for at a minimum to make the top 10 would be #6 TWints from St. Cloud Tech. Most people I talk to say you need to watch him more than once to see how much a student of the game, his brains on the ice, always knows the situation, always looking to make that pass and real strong in the corners as well as great hands to go with it.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

I haven't seen all the top players play this year, but Ben Gordon is by far the best I've seen. He sees the ice like Wayne Gretzky. A dark horse, is Ross Johnson from I Falls, hopefully some colleges will give him a call.An all-around player. There probably at least 7-10 players that deserve the title. Good luck to all!!!!

Regan

Here's why.

Having seen Gordon, Regan, Dey, Garrity, Borgen, many times. I feel that Regan is the most consistent and hard working of the bunch. He doesn't take shifts off. Nothing worse than when these elite players spend half the game sightseeing and then just pick their spots.
If they are bored or lazy, maybe they should go to a higher level early so that they will feel challenged on a shift by shift basis. That is not directed at all of them, just some of them.

On this same topic, I wish everyone would stop with the O. Regan stuff. Unless we are going to use everyone's middle intials from here on out. R. Dey, J. Borgen, T. Gordon, etc......

I realize all the people you are saying have a very good chance, but how come none of you talk about jimmy kilpatrick??? I think he has the most skill out of anyone. He not only dominates on his easy conference, but he also dominates in all the big games.

All canidates wll take a run at it, but my personal opinion would have to be Jimmy Kilpatrick, i agree with slapshotbg on this one also.
Kilpatrick is an all around great player, knows where to be great shot great hands knack for the puck, but i guess he's not being recruited by the Gophers so he won't get it.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/grin.gif ALT=" >D">
Comments?

when talking about mr. hockey you have got to give some consideration to the state's leading scorer thus far in warroads tony selvog. he has got one of the best slapshots int he state and he has great hands as u can see by his uncanny moves with the puck. I hope u all can get a preview in the excel!

Like I said before, Kilpatrick, in my opinion, is the best player in the state. He's got size, awesome hands, phenominal shot, great speed, lets face it, hes the total package. Personally, I was not very impressed with Dey. I can see he has a lot of potential and why NHL scouts are all about him, but I wouldnt put him in the top 10. And about Regan, he works hard and has some skill, but hes not that great. I know Kilpatrick is with Green Bay, but does anybody know if hes gotten any college offers?

I have not seen most of these other player play. I don't have enough time to get all over the state. I am also in favor of Kilpatrick for Mr. Hockey, not because I am their biggest fan but because JK goes out and gives it his all everygame. People have said that he 'floats' well if you could see him tonight he was hussling, fore-checking, playing 'd' and keeping the Mounties on him. Too top it all off he has been battling the flu the past week, as most of the STARS are. I am going to add this, I know defense does not get much consideration, but look for Jack Hillen next year to be a front-runner. This is one player I would always want on my team.

GO STARS
<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /alien.gif ALT="0]">

ballerhere-thank you for mentioning dey worked regan a bit. and i have to agree, the o'regan is driving me crazy!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> . they need to stop using his middle initial every time they announce him and print his name and stuff, the family dropped it.
as for mr hockey, i really really am pulling for nate, because he is a great player and sounds like a really nice person, and you can say the same for sean garrity. right now garrett appers to be in a bit of a slump, hill has been losing some key games to teams like us and tartan as of late. north has now taken over first place due to hill's tie with tartan tonight, and garrett didnt look as great as i was expecting, since they lost to tartan last time i figured they'd come out flying. but i havent seen some of the other players you have mentioned, only heard about them. the players i have seen and figure have a shot are borgen, nate, sean garrity, and garrett. out of those, its just too hard for me to say right now.
btw, i just want to add that i think hill murray's students are horrible fans...heh<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... keyGirl at: 2/4/03 2:39:35 pm
