Best Coach
I would say the best Bantam A coach in the state is none other than Cloquet's Native son, Scott Hambly. Every year they are well prepared, they represent themselves, and their program with class, and they always play hard. The act the way they do because of Scott and his staff. White Bear Lake is always a fun team to watch, and follow.

Re: Best Coach
Tust me - Tom Henrichs is not going to Jefferson - he is still at EP and will stay with Lacombe. They are a very solid team, who could argue with their success - winning D6 7 out of the last 8 years, 4 trips to Bantam state, 1 national trip etc...

They would have my vote at the best head coach & assistant coach combo around!

I agree that Scott Hambly is probably the top A Bantam coach. He is the godfather of youth hockey and is very well respected.

Regarding Hendrichs going to Jefferson, well he has a great job at EP and he would probably not enjoy coaching at Jefferson. The baby blue is a tough organization to coach for.

Hambly
Do you think possibly after Tim is done at UMD, that he may take that job?

karl rassumson from cenntennial is by far the best coach, his first lines includes jordan singer (center),mike bergren (left)' ryan kolak (right). bergren is a first year and i think the best forward on the team.
anyone know him?

Yeah I do
Yeah I know him.. ask him about his sick numbers he put up in his high school career... Emphasize on how many golas he had.

Best coach doesn't mean who has the best players. If centenial has a bantam A coach like there high school coach then you have nothing to talk about. In fact you should be embarssed. Aus is a ******* bum and even his team says so.

So if you have talent you are not a good coach? I believe Cenntennial has won 3 state titles in a row and a runner up. Has someone else done that?? I hope Tom Saterdalen sees this. Maybe Willard Ikola would like to comment.

Bantam coaches
Roseau A Bantams have Aaron Broten in his second year and Billy Lund as an assistant. Both are exceptional and have the team playing solid hockey.

Re: Coaches
Could someone please tell me if Bolstad is still coaching up in Int'l Falls. And if not, What happened?

puckhead, the point is that the best coaches don't need the best players to win. Just because Centennial has an awesome first line doesn't mean the coach did anything whatsoever. He just has to put them out there and they win. It doesn't mean he's NOT a good coach that he has good players, it just means that it's tough to tell how good a coach he is until he doesn't have all those guys. That goes for Sats, Ikola, Trebil, and anybody else you want to think of. The true test is when the well starts drying up, how does the team do, not how does the team do with the best talent in the state. That's why the nod on this one has to go to EP's staff. The high school team hasn't won a state tournament in history, but the Bantam team is always right there.

Isn't that what we are talking about, Bantam A coaches? White Bear, Ep, Duluth E, Moorhead, and Centennial are the only ones who have made it to the dance on a regular basis in the last 4 years. You want to talk about talent and not getting there how about Edina and Jefferson?

Bantams
I'm not sure if you were responding to my post, puckhead, but I can only guess that you were. In which case, I have no idea what you're trying to say. Yes, we're talking about bantam coaches. The point here is that Centennial's coach has all the talent in the world (and credit should be given to the youth coaches for helping develop it), so there's no telling how good he is at coaching because it's not that tough to win with the best players. What I'm saying is that EP hasn't had the best players (they've certainly had good ones, though) every year but they're always right there at the top. That's due to to good coaching. I'm not sure what you're talking about with regards to Jefferson and Edina. The Jaguars had that once-beaten PeeWee team a few years ago, and now half the team has defected to other places. I don't know how you could call what the bantam team is doing underachieving when so many of the top players aren't even there anymore. I have no idea about Edina, but I really think that you've totally missed the point that a couple of others and I have been making: good coaching doesn't mean that you have the best players. Good coaching means that you get the most out of what you've got.

What criteria determines the best?
I've been fortunate to have been the head coach of the first two Centennial bantam teams to win state titles but that doesn't make me the best coach or even a good coach simply because those teams were stacked with talent. All we had to do was turn the key and enjoy the ride. Since then i've moved and Ras has taken over the team. He's a very good coach and leader. But when you coach in a big program it's easier to be successful in my opinion. There are to many coaches to pick one to be the best. Hambly (WBL), LaCombe & Henrichs (EP), Bushy (Moorhead), and the list goes on. In your opinion, what qualities make a good coach?

Sometimes talent is harder to coach. Remember the expectations are different. I agree with Chieftain there are alot of great Bantam A coaches out there.

I agree with cheiftan. Their are many great coaches in bantam hockey, and i myself played for Ras and Henrichs at Centennial. Though are team was talented the two never made things easy for us, they always made us work harder and thats what made them great coaches. If im correct henrichs now coaches the A bantam program at Brainard, i heard brainard recently beat centennial in a tourney. Whats up with that?

Re: Who are the top A Bantam coaches in MN?
I agree wih many of the comments regarding the top coaches. I happen to know some of the EP folks and it sounds like this will be a good test for the EP coaches.

They have 3 concussions, 1 knee surgery, 1 or 2 broken wrists, and a couple of other injuries. I watch them play the other week and they looked real solid and they had what looked like a whole line sitting in the stands. I also know that the Edina team had 3 players out too.

Just rambling....
