most storied programe in the state
who has the riches tradition in minnesota high school hockey

Just Throwing a few out there...
Edina, Hill, Jefferson, Roseau, I'Falls....I guess it comes down to criteria once again.

I think strong arguements can be made for any of the above. Depending on the weight given to the past vs. recent past.

Storied programs
For the long haul? Roseau, International Falls and Edina.

More recent you would also have to add Jefferson.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

The lost and and the forgotten...
St. Paul Johnson has a tradition-filled history. That may be all it is now is history, but alas, it is a rich one. Also, to get a little off topic, none of the veterans to this board ever seem to mention the Roseau-Edina rivalry/match-up that once was legendary...any comments?

teams
Roseau, Edina, I Falls, and then i cant remember if it was eveleth or virginia that won all of the championships back in the day.

Re: teams and tradition
So St Paul is as tradition rich as they come. There is no program with more tradition, but they weren't able to win a championship so its Roseau and then Edina.

PS to Topshelf, They played against each other a lot in the tournament in the 70s. There were a number of highly publicized matchups. Some of them involved the Brotens. I think Edina always won but I am sure a Ram will correct me on that. It was good stuff but thats all I remember.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... elulic>joe lulic at: 12/19/03 2:26 pm

Since 1990
1. Jefferson 2. Duluth East 3. Moorhead 4. Edina
5. Warroad

Eveleth
Number one would have to be Eveleth. Go to the town and you will see it is all hockey. You can't beat their past and the numbers of players who moved on from such a small town back in the day. Another thing to remember is that a lot of the other programs you listed were started by Eveleth people who moved to spead the game. That is why I give my vote to the place where it all started, Eveleth.

programs
Number one from the beginning has to be all of section 7. From Eveleth to I. Falls to Coleraine to Rapids, and East. Number two would be Roseau, followed by St. Paul Johnson, Edina, Jefferson, and South St. Paul.

In the beginning it was north against the south. "Regions" 7 and 8 against the St.Paul schools. Fun times for all and one state champion we could all acknowledge!

I agree
I agree with Rustyblade. Section 7 was a force that was hard to beat back in the day of one class hockey. Now with the two classes of hockey smaller schools who have decided to play single A hockey are not trying as hard as they have been in the past and it trickles down all the way to thier squirt and mite level. Young kids look up to home town heros and without them programs start to fall apart.

Section 7 isn't as fun as it used to be. teams like cambrige, brainerd and others have tarnished the shine and it's a sad thing to see fall apart.

Who remembers the old section 7 and the teams it consisted of??? Those were the hay days.

most storied program in the state
Since the late 70's - Cloquet has produced as many D-1 players as anyone including a handful of NHLers and 3 names on the Stanley Cup. The 1975-76 first line from Roseau is the most amazing piece of MN hockey history.
