Good list

Post by centerman » Wed Dec 24, 2003 12:46 pm

A pretty good list. I would change #2 by having them all play AA. #3 also has a few more teams that could be added to that list.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

BIAFP,

Weird, Im pretty sure AHA is a private school so technically you can not call that open enrollment. Its funny that many other public schools offer open enrollment as well and get players from other towns to play hockey for them (i.e. Jefferson). Quit whining about private schools and let it be until the League has a problem with it. Trebil is the best coach in the state so why would he need to call anyone anyway, I think all the players would just want to call him<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Trebil is the one that developed the great Crowley, Checco, LaFleur, Parrish, Anderson, and many others. Trebil was the one that gave Jefferson all their success in the 90's he developed all those players in to state champions college players and some pros. Why was Saterdalen so upset when Trebil left? Because the man who developed all his great players was leaving and then and there he knew his team would be on a down fall. not to many state appearances for Jefferson after he left. And look all the d-1 players Trebil has developed since he has been at AHA. Kronick, Howells, Kaiser, Lamere, Rankin, Frazee, Hagemo, Taylor, Hillen as well as some players that will be going d-1, Hummel Johnson Carman etc.. That is what Trebil did for Jefferson and this is what he has done for AHA

He recruited those players, he did not develop them. How are the AHA peewee and bantam teams doing this year?

I am sure you are tight with Mr.Trebil and have facts to prove they were recruited. Quit complaining about AHA and their great players

Who cares, no private schools have bantam teams or peewee teams or any youth teams for that matter. Why does AHA bother you so much, did they "take" players from your program?

Trebil

SHP55:

GET REAL ! Are you actually going to say that Trebil should be credited for the success of those players.

Kaiser, Hagemo played one year for him, are you saying they were nothing before they came to him. You say he developed Crowley, Crowley was a forward until high School. Everyone on your list were blue chippers when they came there, but you fail to mention players like rollwagon who was considered the best player at his age group when he went there and could barely even get a Junior "A" tryout after he was done.

I think trebil is a excellent coach, but like when he was at Jefferson he was given better talent then his opponents to begin with. Kent Murphy was the Pee Wee coach during Trebil's tenure at Jefferson and he dominated with the players long before trebil ever got a hold of them.

SHP55- One coach does not develop a player.

The player is the key to development then the parent who supports the player. From there countless youth coaches from Mighty Mites on up help to further develop skills. One person should not be credited for that.

Trebil surely knows what he is doing and has brought in some very good talent to AHA. What BIAFP says is true to some extent. Those in the coaching circles know that certain coaches do whatever it takes to get the best talent on board. Personally, I have more problems with the public schools who do it on a consistent basis.

AHA... Wishlist

Post by EagleHockey » Wed Dec 24, 2003 2:10 pm

Wasnt Trebil the bantam coach at Jefferson?? or am I wrong??

As far as the wish list... I love the idea of 20 minute periods and 40 game season as long as the length of the season stays the same so kids can still play fall and spring sports...

As for private schools, I think they should just have to play AA. Keep in mind that since the two class system started, AHA in 2002 is the only private school to win a AA title.

All you are right not just one coach can create a great player, although Trebil has made some great players. I was being naive in what I was saying and get tired of the private school bashing.

Private Schools and Open Enrollment

Post by Gordie » Wed Dec 24, 2003 2:53 pm

All the private schools should not be allowed to play in Class A, they must play in Class AA. All the schools that have open enrollment should not be able to play in the section and state high school tournaments because open enrollment is cheating. It is unfair to the kids who play at a small public school outside of the metro. Open enrollment is recruting just like in college. Kids can decide to go to a different school for example (AHA) just so they can play hockey and win a state championship instead of with the school that they should be playing for the town that they live in. Overall open enrollment sucks and it is unfair to other teams.

My list is short. Get the sport into the commiunity and away from the schools. Then all of these goofy arguments end.

Joe many top programs are community based like Centennial this year. Home grown kids and a youth program that is very good all the way down.

Open Enrollment has changed the game. Now we have a handful of public schools that thrive on move-ins. Any way to win!!

I say if a student wants to transfer schools then they should be willing to sit out an entire year. We all know they are transferring for the better education. Right??

Trebil..

Post by YouKnowMeBaby » Wed Dec 24, 2003 3:13 pm

For your information, these days kids call AHA and want to go there. But in the first few years, Trebil would have kids on the team call others and do the recruiting that way.. I know.. I watched it happen.

Nice topic, would like to add or reemphasise some things:

Disband Minnesota Hockey leadership as we see it today. Lets get some new, younger people involved. Lets remove the old gaurd/Elks members, and get in some fresh ideas. How would one get involved or voted into this regime, I would like to find out?
1. No more NDTP
2. One Tournament, 16 teams 3 north, 1-2 central, 1 south and unfortunately, 10-11 teams from the Metro. People would start caring and watching the State High School Tournament again.
3. Love the 20 minute periods/40 games idea.
4. Separate Private School Tournament. I guarantee the loss of that great education a kid can pick up, at say AHA, might be looked at differently, when the State High School Hockey Tournament is back on solid ground.
5. USHL has caused some problems, again, you have that same stuffy group that just doesn't get it.
6. Complete makeover of the MSHSL, or did I already mention that. If we can do that, we could solve many of the problems that have been causing our great game of hockey it's mystique and reputation, as the greatest high school sporting event in any state.
7. Not a big fan of the Select 16-18's, again another casualty of the NDTP.

JR, I did notice, Centennial is finally getting there players to stay. What a youth program they have, and finally the kids are sticking around to reward not only the school district, but more importantly, themselves!!

jr,
I am happy for Centeniel. All of this resentment, phobia and just plain garbage is so needless. Kids want to go to private/parochial schools for many reasons. Kids also want to play hockey. Why do we have to have them choose between playing hockey within their community and going to the school of their choice?

If there are people who want to send their kids to a religious school , should they not because Centeniel is going to be good in hockey? Does that make any more sense than going from Richfield or to AHA because AHA is up and Richfield is down? Its all so stupid.

Why not let them go to what ever school they want and then play hockey with their neighbors.

People blame the non public schools for all of this "loss" of talent. Has anyone considered how many student athletes the Catholic schools have "lost" because the public school in their area is on a roll. People talk about Centeniel or whoever "keeping their kids" as a source of pride or accomplishment. Is it?

6. Replace facemasks with half-shields

^ i'm not sure this is a good idea, even if there were half-sheilds I don't think that the sticks would come down very much, I for one would keep wearing the full face mask I've already had a cut above my eye, on my chin and on my neck this season.

20 minute periods would be nice, i really like the 17 minute change already

Joe,

I never mentioned private schools so I not sure where the phobia statement came from.

Yes, Centennial should be happy that they have developed a community based program and the kids are staying because the school has a lot to offer as well.

Again I will say if you want to transfer fine. Having to sit out a year should not deter students since academics are the reason they made the choice.

Purple and Gold #12: Yes, it's nice to see the hard work of so many finally pay off in the Centennial system. Back in the day a strong youth program almost assured success at the high school level. With open enrollment that has all changed!
